NSU Wins South Region. Elite Eight Matchups Set.

2019 SSC Tournament Begins Wednesday.

The 2019 Sunshine State Conference Tournament begins on Wednesday night. Top seed Nova Southeastern will take on eighth seeded Tampa in the one versus eight matchup. In the four versus five contest Eckerd will take on Barry. In the two- seven contest Lynn will host Palm Beach Atlantic. To round out the opening round third ranked Florida Southern will host sixth seeded Saint Leo.

Tars Drop Finale At Southern.

The Rollins Tars closed the 2018-19 campaign with one of there best offensive performances of the year, but it was not be enough as they fell 105-100 to Florida Southern at Jenkins FIeldHouse. With the win the Mocs improve to 21-7 and 14-6 in the SSC on the season as they prepare for the SSC Tournament. The Tars season concluded with a record of 10-18 and 4-16 in the SSC.
 Connor McKim poured in 31 points to lead Rollins in the defeat. He also added six rebounds- and- four assists. Hutton Yenor netted 20 off the bench- Eric Castaneda tallied 19- while Trevor Recio and Jakob Bonner scored 12 points each. Rollins shot 57 percent as a team- 46 percent (11-24) from the 3-point line- and- 83 percent (15-18) at the free throw line. The Tars had 17 assists and 11 turnovers as a team.
 Brett Hanson led Southern with 23 points- Johnathan Lawton added 20- Slinky Jones tallied 17- while Ben Marello added 15. Jack Rauch scored 14- and- DeAndre Campbell posted 11 to round out the double digit scorers. The Mocs shot 64 percent as a team- 47 percent (9-19) from the 3-point line- and- 67 percent (12-18) from the free throw line. The Mocs won the rebounding battle 31-26. They had 21 assists and 10 turnovers as a team.
 Rollins led 13-12 at the first media timeout of the contest. After a McKim 3-pointer at the 10:11 mark of the half the Tars would trail 26-25. The game would be tied at 43 with 2:36 in the half after a Bonner 3-pointer. It would be ultimately be a 49-47 Rollins deficit at halftime.
 McKim went a perfect six of six from the floor-and- three of three from the 3-point line to score 15 points in the opening half. Bonner and Recio would each have eight. The Tars shot 59 percent from the field- 60 percent (6-10) from the 3-point line- and- 60 percent (3-5) from the free throw line. The Tars had 11 assists and five turnovers in the opening 20 minutes.
  Hanson led the Mocs with 14 in the opening half- while Jones added 11. The Mocs shot 61 percent as a team in the half- 38 percent (3-8) from the 3-point line- and- made both free throw attempts in the half. They had 10 assists and five turnovers in the half.
  Castaneda would hit a 3-ball to give the Tars the lead back to start the second half, but it would be short lived. McKim would tie the game at 57 with a 3-pointer at the 15:44 mark. After a Bonner layup at the 9:54 mark Rollins would trail 72-71. The Mocs would stretch the lead to 12 (87-75) after a Lawton 3-ball with 5:43 remaining. The closest the Tars would get down the stretch would be four points (101-97) with 29 ticks left after a pair of McKim free throws.  McKim would hit a 3-pointer with seven seconds left but it would be to little to late as the Mocs iced the game at the free throw line.

Rollins Closes Season At Florida Southern Saturday.

The Rollins Tars close the 2018-19 campaign at Jenkins FieldHouse on Saturday when they take on the Florida Southern Moccasins. Tip time is set for 7:30 PM and you can catch all the action on RollinsSports.com
 Rollins (10-17 4-15 SSC) was a 84-72 winner at Florida Tech on Wednesday night. Connor McKim poured in a game high 27 points to lead the Tars- Trevor Recio tallied a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds- while Hutton Yenor added 14. Jakobi Bonner added 13- and- Eric Castaneda posted 10 in the victory. Rollins shot 49 percent from the field- 41 percent (11-27) from the 3-point line- and- 50 percent (9-18) from the free throw line in the victory. They had 19 assists and 13 turnovers in the contest.
  The Tars score 75 points a game as a team- while they allow 77 per contest. Bonner leads Rollins in scoring at 14.7 per night-while Yenor puts up 13.3 per contest. McKim is also averaging 13.3 per night- and- leads the team in assists averaging more than three per contest.  The Tars won the first meeting with the Mocs 83-69 back on 1/19.
  Florida Southern (20-7 13-6 SSC) comes into the contest Saturday third in the SSC- and- ranked second in the most recent south region rankings released Wednesday. Last time out the Mocs fell to Saint Leo 85-78 on Wednesday night. Johnathan Lawton poured in a game high 30 points for the Mocs- while Brett Hanson added 29. The Mocs shot 48 percent as a team- they shot a frigid 24 percent (4-17) from the 3-point line- and- 82 percent (14-17) from the free throw line. They had 10 assists- and- 11 turnovers as a team.
  The Mocs average 83.0 points per game on the offensive end- while defensively they give up 84.4 per contest. Lawton leads the season box score at 22.9 per night- while Hanson puts up 17.4 per game. Slinky Jones also averages in double figures at 10.9 per night.
