Tars Get Big Win In Miami.

The Rollins Tars (14-11 8-7 SSC) traveled to Miami Shores, Florida and came away with a big 75-71 win at the Barry Sport and Health Center. The win for the Tars gives them four straight. The loss for the Buccaneers dropped them to 17-7 overall and 7-7 in the SSC.
Three Rollins players scored in double figures in the win. Chris Uhle set a career high by scoring 21 points (17 in the first half) on seven of 10 shooting from the floor. Alex Blessig also tied his career high by putting up 20 points. Blessig was just five of 17 from the field, but he also added four assists and five steals. Mitch Woods added 13 points and four assists before fouling out with 12:20 to go in the contest.
The Tars shot 45 percent (22-49) on the night. They shot at a 45 percent clip (9-20) from the 3-point line. The Tars shot 76 percent (22-29) at the foul line in the victory. The Tars had 14 assists and nine turnovers.

Barry was a very impressive +15 on the boards. They out rebounded the Tars 42-27. The Bucs had 19 assists and 18 turnovers.
It was Barry who put the Tars in a quick hole in the first 10 minutes. 10 minutes into the contest the Bucs would open up a 18-8 lead. The Tars would get hot from the 3-point line the rest of the half. A 3-pointer by Woods and then another by Scott Schuette would cut the Barry deficit to four (18-14.)  The two teams would go back and forth for the next several minutes before a 12-0 Tars run sparked by the 3-point shooting of Uhle would give the Tars a eight point lead (37-29) at the half.
A Jeff Dirkin dunk would get the Tars off to a good second half start as they would lead by nine.  The Bucs would fight back over the next four minutes and get within two (39-37.) The Tars would stretch the lead back out to seven (56-49) on a pair of Uhle free throws at the 10:07 mark.
Barry would battle back over the next four plus minutes and knot the game at 60 on a Hill three at the 5:29 mark. A Schuette lay up would give the Tars the lead back on the ensuing possession.  The Tars would take command in the next couple minutes and afterAdam Allen split a pair of free throws with 1:02 to go the Tars would again lead by seven (69-62) at the 1:02 mark. The Bucs would not get any closer than four the rest of the way and the Tars had a huge road win.

Tars Knock Off Sharks.

The Rollins Tars gained a split of the season series with the Nova Southeastern Sharks with a 81-72 win at Warden Arena Saturday.  With the win the Tars improved to 12-11 overall and 6-7 in the SSC.  With the loss NSU dropped to 11-13 and 7-5 in the SSC.
Alex Blessig had a career day. The transfer from Florida Gulf Coast knocked down seven 3-pointer's on his way to 23 points- Adam Allen netted 22 behind five 3-pointers- Mitch Woods added 17 points and nine assists- while Chris Uhle scored 11 in the win.

NSU had three players who scored in double figures.  Justin Jeangerard paced them with 24 points- Brian Cahill notched 16 points- and Casey Carroll tallied a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.  The Sharks shot 44 percent (24-54) for the game and 46 percent (19-41) from the 3-point line.  NSU won the rebounding battle 31-28.  They had 19 assists and 15 turnovers.
The Sharks controlled the game for much of the first half. Blessig started off the scoring with his first of seven 3-pointers but that would be the Tars only lead of the opening half.  The Sharks led by as many as seven but the Tars would knot the game at 22 with 8:31 in the half.  The Sharks would have a slight edge for the rest of the half and led by four (43-39) at the intermission.
Perhaps inspired by the ceremony that honored  the 03-04 Tars team that went to the elite eight at halftime the Tars came out with new energy in the second stanza.  Halfway thru the half Rollins would use a 10-2 run capped off by a Allen 3-pointer to lead by five (59-54.)  The Sharks would have a quick run and the Tars would have an answer.  They would lead by as many as 13 before completing the victory, avenging a 54-46 loss to Nova a few weeks ago.
The Tars will be back in action Wednesday. It will be the final home game of the year, as they will face Lynn. Tip time is set for 7:30 PM.  You can catch all the action on 91.5 FM WPRK Winter Park and worldwide at RollinsSports.com

The Tars come into Saturday's contest with the seventh best defensive team in the country, giving up just 63.8 points a game.  The offense is at the bottom of the SSC scoring 67.6 a game.
The Sharks have really taken off since conference play began. Nova Southeastern in currently second in the SSC with a 7-4 conference record, despite having a losing record (11-12) overall.   The Sharks have won three in a row and are coming off a 81-79 win over Lynn Wednesday.  Three players scored in double figures in that one.  Stian Berg paced the Sharks with 18 points.  Chris Page put up 19- and- Justin JeanGerrard scored 13 to go along with nine rebounds.
A balanced attack is part of the reason why the Sharks are playing as well as they are. Five players average double figures on the season for NSU.  Page paces the squad at 14.1 a night- JeanGerard puts up 13. 2.- Brian Cahill  scores 13.1- with Berg adding 11.1- Casey Carroll (11 a night) and Maurice Fuller (10 a game) also average in double digits.

Tars Swat Away Panthers.

The Rollins Tars (11-11 5-7 SSC) only dressed 10 players Wednesday night and easily dismantled Florida Tech 84-59 at Warden Arena.  With the loss the Panthers dropped to 14-9 and 4-8 in the SSC.
Rollins was led by a trio of players in double figures. Mitch Woods led the way with 20 points- four assists- and-four steals.  Chris Uhle had a monster game. He scored 17 points- grabbed seven rebounds- and had a career high seven blocked shots.  Scott Schuette returned after a one game suspension by nailing four 3-pointers en route to 14 points.  The Tars were without Lukas Winegarner (broken foot) and Sharif Almulla (sprained ankle.)  The Tars shot 48 percent (31-65) from the field.  They shot 41 percent (16-39) from the 3-point line.  The Tars had 22 assists- a season low seven turnovers- and 12 blocked shots (a new team record)  But the story of the game was on the defensive end where the Tars held a Panthers squad that scores 81 points a night to just 59.
Corbin Jackson was the only Panther to score in double figures. He had 11 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.  Jermaine Jackson only scored nine points. The conferences leading scorer came in averaging 20 a game- and Chris Carter had just five. Well under his average of 18 a contest.   The Panthers shot 35 percent (22-63) from the field.  They were three of 18 (17 percent from the 3-point line.  The Panthers did nothing to hurt there status as the worst foul shooting team in the conference by shooting 57 percent (12-21.)  The Panthers won the rebounding battle 46-36.  FIT had just 11 assists and 14 turnovers.
The Tars got off to a quick start as Uhle scored the game's first five points. They would never trail in the game.  The lead would grow to 10, but FIT would cut it to two (21-19) with 8:12 in the opening half.
The Tars would get a pair of Uhle 3-pointers and a Schuette three to stretch the lead back to double digits. The lead would be 14 (38-24) at the break.
The second half would see the Tars continue to shoot extremely well, especially from the 3-point line. The lead would grow to as many as 29.  The Tars would cruise to victory.
Billy Mims would see 17 Tech players see action Wednesday.  It was a very lackluster effort for a team that has now lost eight of 11 after a 11-1 start.
Rollins will be back in action Saturday at Warden Arena when they take on Nova Southeastern.  The 2003-04 Tars Elite Eight team will be honored at halftime of Saturday's contest. Short Handed Tars Fall At Eckerd.

The Rollins Tars who were already without Lukas Winegarner (broken foot) for the rest of the season, got a bit of surprising news prior to Saturday's game at Eckerd. guard Scott Schuette would have to serve a one game suspension after a flagrant foul versus Tampa on Wednesday. Schuette who was visibly frustrated after not getting a call on a 3-point shot that fell about two-feet short made a hard foul at the other end. Was it intentional yes, worthy of a flagrant two  I really don't agree. My vote does not count and the commissioner on his second day on the job decided to suspend Schuette. It should be noted that the new commissioner of the SSC was an Eckerd grad. Schuette was not able to travel with the team either.
Missing Schuette's shooting ability all day long the Tars would ultimately fall 66-57 at the MaCarthur Center.  With the loss the Tars dropped to 10-11 overall and 4-7 in the SSC.  Three Rollins players scored in double figures on the day.  Mitch Woods led the way as he has much of the season with 15 points.  Sharif Almulla scored a season high 12 points in 19 minutes before leaving in the second half with an injury to his knee or ankle. The extent of the injury was not known at the time of this writing.  Chris Uhle scored 11 points, all in the second half and also grabbed nine rebounds.  The Tars shot 43 percent (20-46) from the field on the day but shot 30 percent (7-23) in the opening half.  The Tars went 8-25 from the 3-point line. They were not good at the foul line where they were nine of 17.
The Tritons improved to 13-9 overall and 5-5 in the SSC with the win. It improved there home record to 9-3 on the season.  They had four players score in double figures. Josh Snodgrass led the way with 19 points.  He was 11 of 12 at the foul line.  Matt Beneduci had 11 behind a trio of 3-pointers- while Jerrick Stevenson and Ray Darnell each scored 10.  The Tritons shot 53 percent on 16-30 from the field on the day and made a living at the foul line where they shot 82 percent (31-38.)
The game would start with both teams having a hard time finding the basket.  Mitch Woods would tie the score at two with a jumper at the 17:45 mark.  Over the next six plus minutes the Tritons would go on a 10-0 run and lead 12-2.   Woods would score again to cut the deficit to eight (12-4) at about the 11 minute mark.  The Tars would get going a little on offense late in the half.  A Woods basket and Jeff Dirkin dunk would cut the Eckerd deficit to six (20-14) with 4:49 in the opening half.  The Tritons would stretch that lead to 10 (28-18) at the half.
The Tars would get off to a better start in the second half behind the play of Almulla and a pair of 3-pointers by  Uhle.  James Ferrell would nail a 3-pointer at the 9:49 mark and the game was knotted at 40.. The Tars would again tie it at 44 about a minute later. The Tritons would then go on a 13-2  spurt and would open up a 11 point lead (57-46) with 2:51 to go.  The Tars would get to within seven but that is as close as they would get as the Tritons cruised to a season sweep.
The Tars will open up a three game home stand (the last of the season) when they welcome Florida Tech to Warden Arena on Wednesday night.  Tip time is set for 7:30 PM.  You can catch all the action on 91.5 FM WPRK Winter Park and worldwide on RollinsSports.com.
