Tars Win Double OT Thriller Saturday.

The Jenkins FieldHouse in Lakeland has never been an easy place to play for the Rollins Tars or anyone in the Sunshine State Conference for that matter. Saturday proved no differently as the Tars would need a pair of overtimes to come away with a 117-111 win. The win improved Rollins to 11-7 and 7-3 in the SSC. With the loss Southern dropped to 9-8 and 3-6 in the SSC.
Sam Philpott poured in a career high 36 points to lead the Tars.  He was one of six players who scored in double figures.  Connor McKim scored 18 and went 10-10 at the free throw line- Jeff Merton had 16- Eric Castaneda scored 15- Jack Fleming had 11- and- Deion Clark added 10.  The Tars shot 53 percent as a team- 36 percent (8-22) from the 3-point line.  They shot 87 percent (41-47) at the free throw line.  The Tars had nine assists and 19 turnovers. Rollins won the rebounding battle 45-40.
The Moccasins were led by 26 points from Brett Hanson- Jonathan Lawton added 24- Ben Marello scored 22- Trey Diggs added 17- and- Slinky Jones scored 12.  The Mocs shot 48 percent as a team- 39 percent (18-46) from the 3-point line- and- 42 percent (5-12) from the free throw line.  They had 26 assists and 20 turnovers as a team.
It was a wildly entertaining game that saw 10 ties and 12 lead changes. Rollins jumped out to a 6-0 lead right out of the gate. The Tars lead would be two (13-11) at the first media time out.  The Mocs would go on a run of there own and lead by 12 (31-19) at the midway point of the half. The lead would be 14 (36-22) before the Tars would go on a 19-5 run that knotted the game at 41 after a pair of Blake Admire free throws at the 1:33 mark of the first half. Southern would finish the half strong and take a 48-43 lead into the locker room.
Rollins would come back in the early stages of the second half and regain the tie the game twice. The last being at 55 before FSC grabbed the lead right back.  The Tars would come back and regain the lead once again (65-63) after a Philpott 3-pointer with 13:03 to go in regulation. The game would stay tight but Rollins would open up a nine point lead (85-76) after a Castaneda layup at the 4:14 mark. The Tars would lead by six (97-91) with 30 seconds to go in regulation but the Mocs would not go away. Hanson drained a 3-pointer- then McKim turned it over for the tars and the Mocs tied it at 97 on a Jones 3-poiner with 17 seconds. After another Rollins turnover the Mocs had a chance to win it in regulation but Lawton missed the 3-pointer and we went to overtime.
