The Rollins Tars saw a season high six game win streak halted Wednesday with a 98-89 loss at the ICI Center on the campus of Embry-Riddle.With the victory the Eagles improved to 10-11 and 4-9 in the SSC. The Tars dropped to 14-8 overall and 10-4 in the SSC with the defeat.
Deion Clark led four Tars in double figures with 20 points in the defeat. Clark went 12 of 12 at the free throw line and scored 18 of his 20 points in the second half. Three Rollins players tallied 19 points on the evening. Jeff Merton- Jack Fleming- and- Eric Castaneda each had 19 points. Rollins shot 47 percent as a team- 39 percent (12-31) from the 3-point line- and- 94 percent (17-18) at the free throw line. Rollins had 21 assists and seven turnovers in the contest.
ERAU saw all five starters score in double figures in this one as they avenged a loss to Rollins back in Winter Park. Nashad Mackey set the Eagles school record for double-doubles in a season with his 17th of the year on Wednesday (28 points and 16 rebounds-) Rudy Bibb-Boyd knocked down five 3-pointer's on his way to 21 points- Joshua Hawkins hit four 3-pointer's on his way to 16 points- while Elijah Jenkins and Luka Majstorovic added 14 points each. The Eagles shot 47 percent from the field- 50 percent (15-30) from the 3-point line- and- 94 percent (29-31) at the free throw line in improving to 10-5 at home on the season. The Eagles crushed Rollins on the boards 43-24. They had 21 assists and 14 turnovers as a team.
It was Rollins who came out hot in the early going and jumped out to a 20-9 lead six minutes in. The Tars were playing without Connor McKim and Blake Admire who did not make the trip with the flu. ERAU then got hot from the 3-point line and answered with a 20-6 run that would give them a 29-26 lead with 8:44 in the opening half. Rollins would score just eight points in the last 10+ minutes of the half and trailed by six (40-34) at the half.
The Eagles stretched the lead to 13 (61-48) in the opening eight minutes of the second stanza after four technical free throws by the Eagles. After a Rollins run cut it back to single digits ERAU would go back up 15 with 6:23 to go.
The Tars then got hot from the 3-point line with Fleming hitting 3 3-pointer's during the run. His last cut the lead to 80-78 with 3:28 to go. After a pair of buckets by the Eagles Rollins would get a Clark tip-in with 2:30 to go that made it a four point game (84-80.) The Eagles would close the game out at the free throw line as they won for the fourth time in the last six in conference play after a 0-7 start.
