The Rollins Tars will look to break a four game losing slide when they face the Nova Southeastern Sharks at Warden Arena inside the Alfond Sports Center Saturday afternoon. The Tars come into the game 8-7 overall and 4-3 in the SSC. NSU has been the biggest surprise in the conference as they are 10-2 overall and 4-2 in the conference. The Tars were a 80-68 loser to Palm Beach Atlantic at Rubin Arena Wednesday night. Rollins did not do themselves any favors, going 4 of 14 (29 percent) from the free throw line in the loss. They also fell to Eckerd 95-81.
In the game versus PBA Jeff Merton led the way with 18 points- Sam Philpott scored 14 off the bench- and- Connor McKim added 11. Philpott is leading the Tars in scoring and sixth in the conference putting up 20.2 points per game. Merton scores 15.1 a game and grabs 4.3 rebounds a contest. Deion Clark is scoring 13.1 points and a team leading 4.7 rebounds a night. Eric Castaneda scores 12.5 per night- while McKim nets 10.6 points and dishes out 4.6 assists a game. Rollins is putting up 83.5 points per night- but they give up 81.8 per contest.
NSU was picked to finish last in the SSC. They won nine of 10 to start the season, fell to #7 Barry before upsetting #22 Eckerd on Wednesday night. The Sharks are playing just there second road game in the last 12 contests.
New head coach Jim Crutchfield takes over NSU this season after 13 years at West Liberty. He brings the run and gun style to the SSC with Nova. They are the highest scoring team in the conference, but are last on the defensive end. David Dennis had 24 points and six assists to lead the way in the victory over Eckerd. Nick Smith had 13 points and nine rebounds while Nick Stampley netted 12. Dennis is fourth in the SSC averaging 21.9 points per game- he also averages eight assists- and- 6.7 rebounds per night. Malik Hardy adds 18.6 points a game- while Smith (14.0 ppg-) and- Gerard Tarin nets 11 per contest to round out the double digit scorers. The Sharks average 99.2 points a game as a team. They have eclipsed the century mark five times this season. They surrender 91.4 a night on the defensive end.
The two teams split the two meetings a year ago. Each winning at home. The Sharks were a 63-56 winner at NSU- before the Tars won 86-67 in Winter Park.
