The Rollins Tars snapped a four game losing skid Saturday with a 81-71 win over Nova Southeastern at Warden Arena inside the Alfond Sports Center. With the win Rollins improves to 9-7 and 5-3 in the SSC. After the loss the Sharks drop to 10-3 and 4-3 in the SSC.
Sam Philpott led three Tars in double figures with 21 points- Jack Fleming netted 15 off the bench- and- Connor McKim added 14. The tars shot 50 percent as a team- 38 percent (8-21) from the 3-point line- and- 85 percent (23-27) from the free throw line. The Tars won the rebounding battle 36-33. They had 18 assists and 21 turnovers in the contest.
Nick Smith had 19 to lead NSU- David Dennis added 17- while Gerard Tarin chipped in 12. The Tars shot a frigid 37 percent from the field- 25 percent (8-32) from the 3-point line- and- 85 percent (17-20) from the free throw line. The Sharks had 14 assists and 20 turnovers.
The Tars held a Sharks team averaging 99 points a game on the season to 71 in this one. The Tars got off to a quick start and led 10-4 at the first media. The Sharks would grab the lead 17-14 with 12 minutes in the opening stanza. Five ties and six lead changes later we were knotted at 34 after a Fleming 3-pointer at the 3:08 mark of the half. The Tars would go on a 10-2 run to close the half and took a seven point lead (43-36) into the half.
The Sharks came back and tied the game at 48 early in the second half before the Tars would go up eight (60-52) with 11:49 to go. NSU scored the next nine points and took a 61-60 lead. The Tars led by seven (71-64) with five minutes to go. The Tars made all 10 free throws to ice the victory.
