Rollins Runs Past Warriors.

The Rollins Tars got 25 points from Hutton Yenor and ran past Webber International 101-87 at Warden Arena. With the win the Tars improved to 4-2- while the Warriors dropped to 3-7 with the loss.
  Yenor was one of four Rollins players in double figures, as he nailed six 3-pointer's on the night.  Jakobi Bonner tallied 19- Connor McKim netted 18- and- Dayton Gumm tallied 12. Trevor Recio hauled in a team leading 12 rebounds. The Tars shot 55 percent from the field- 55 percent (18-33) from the 3-point line- and- 73 percent (11-15) at the free throw line.  The Tars won the rebounding battle 35-31.  They had 23 assists- and- 14 turnovers as a team.
 The Warriors were led by Tommie Luke who netted 22 points and was one of four players in double figures.  Corey Corbin scored 15- while both Kevin Grace and Ariel Watson tallied 12. The Warriors shot 47 percent as a team- 39 percent (9-23) from the 3-point line- and- 82 percent (18-22) at the free throw line. They had 14 assists and 16 turnovers as a team.
   It was 10-2 in favor of Webber in the early going. A pair of Gumm 3-pointer's sparked a 19-3 run that gave Rollins a eight point lead (21-13.)  The Tars lead would grow to 11, but would only be three (47-44) at the half.
  The Tars were led in scoring by 13 points from Yenor and 12 from Gumm in the opening half.  They shot 50 percent from the field (16-32) and 50 percent from the 3-point line (10-20) in the opening stanza.  They shot 83 percent (5-6) at the free throw line. The Tars had 12 assists and seven turnovers in the opening half.
The Warriors were paced by 13 from Luke in the opening half- while Kevin Grace had nine.  They shot 53 percent from the field and 44 percent (4-9) from the 3-point line in the half. They made all six free throws and led on the boards 17-13 in the opening stanza.    The Warriors had eight assists and 10 turnovers in the half.
  It would be a two point game after a quick run by the Warriors to start the half, but a McKim 3-ball made it 59-54 with under 16 to play.  The lead would grow to 10 (69-59) on a Bonner jumper at the 12:46 mark.  McKim hit another 3-pointer at the 9:42 mark and the Tars were in control 84-69. The Warriors would not get any close than 13 the rest of the way.
 Rollins will next be in action when they open Sunshine State Conference play versus Embry-Riddle on 12/4. Tip time set for 7:30 PM.

Rollins Battles Webber International.

The Rollins Tars (3-2) will take on the Webber International Warriors at Warden Arena inside the Alfond Sports Center.  The game is scheduled to tip at 7 PM and you can catch all the action on 91.5 FM WPRK Winter Park and RollinsSports.com
  Last week, in the lone game that they played Rollins was a 81-53 winner over Puerto Rico Mayaguez.  Jokobi Bonner is coming off a 19 point- 12 rebound effort against Mayaguez.  Hutton Yenor came off the bench to score 15 points- while Trevor Recio tallied 14.  As a team the Tars shot 46 percent- while they shot 36 percent (10-28) from the 3-point line.  Rollins shot at a 76 percent clip (19-25) in the contest.  The Tars won the rebounding battle 44-37.  They had 19 assists- and- 12 turnovers in the contest.
 Rollins averages 78.8 points per game as a team- while shooting 34 percent from the 3-point line.  On the defensive end they are giving up 71.8 points per contest,The Tars have been getting to the free throw line 19.2 times per contest.  Bonner leads the season box score putting up 18.4 points per game- while Dayton Gumm is averaging 12.0 points per night.  Recio is tallying 11.0 points per game- while Yenor is chipping in 10.4 per contest.
  The Warriors (3-6) are coming off a 79-72 winner over St.Thomas.  Tommie Luke poured in 26 points- while Corey Corbin and Ariel Watson each netted 13.  Javonni Quince chipped in 11 in the Webber win.  The Warriors average 85.6 points per game as a team- while they allow 82 points per night.  Luke leads the Warriors in scoring at 21.3 points per game- while Watson and Corbin each average 13 per night.  Corbin is averaging a team leading 6.1 rebounds per game.  Luke leads the team in assists at more than two per night.
The Tars will be back in action after the holiday break when they take on Embry Riddle on 12.4.

Tars Take It To Tarzans Tuesday Night.

The Rollins Tars and Puerto Rico Mayaguez Tarzans did battle inside Warden Arena on Tuesday. Rollins would come out with the 81-53 win to secure the team's first home win of the season- and- snap a brief two game losing streak. With the win Rollins improved to 3-2- while the Tarzans fell to 0-4 with the loss.
  Rollins had a trio of players in double figures paced by Jakobi Bonner who scored 19 points on the night.  Hutton Yenor scored 15- and- Trevor Recio was one rebounds shy of a double-double with 14 points- and- nine boards.  The Tars shot 46 percent as a team- 36 percent (10-28) from the 3-point line- and- 76 percent (19-25) at the free throw line.  The Tars won the rebounding battle 44-37.  They had 19 assists- and- 12 turnovers as a team.
  The Tarzans were led by Ricardo Erans with 13 points- while Jeriel Torres added 10.  Mayaguez shot 32 percent from the field- as well as 32 percent (10-31) from the 3-point line- they shot just 20 percent (1-5) from the free throw line.  The Tarzans had 15 turnovers and 16 assists in the defeat.
 Both teams had a hard time finding the bucket in the early going. Bonner would finally get a pair of free throws at the 16:25 mark to give the Tars a 2-0 lead.  After a Cesar Ortiz basket with 10:10 in the opening half the Tarzans led 16-15.  Yenor would hit back to back 3-pointer's after a Bonner 3-ball during a 9-0 run that gave the Tars a six point advantage (24-18.)  After a Dayton Gumm dunk at the 6:21 mark of the half Rollins led by 10 (30-20.)  Rollins would stretch that lead to 17 (42-25) at the intermission.
  Yenor had 11 to lead The Tars in the opening half- while Bonner and Recio had seven each in the opening half.  They shot 48 percent as a team in the first 20 minutes- 40 percent (6-15) from the 3-point line- and- 80 percent (8-10) from the free throw line.  The Tars had 11 assists and five turnovers in the opening half.
 The Tarzans were led by Erans and Jose Cruz with five points each in the half.  They shot 33 percent in the first 20 minutes- 36 percent (4-11) from the 3-point line- and- 50 percent (1-2) from the free throw line.
 The Tarzans scored the first four points of the second half before Recio hit another 3-ball for the Tars.  After a Bonner 3-pointer at the 17:14 mark Rollins led 52-29.  The Tarzans would show some fight on this night though.  After a 3-pointer by Kenneth Perez they got to within 14 (59-45) with 11:45 to go.  Rollins would go on a nine point run and stretch the lead back to 23 (68-45) with 7:55 to go after a pair of Connor McKim free throws.  A Brooks Cluzton jumper would give the Tars what would be the biggest lead of the night (70-45.)  Ultimately the Tars would come away victorious 81-53.
  The Tars will take a week off before being back in action on 11.26 when they take on Webber International at Warden Arena. Tip time is set for 7:30 PM.

Rollins Takes On Mayaguez Tuesday.

The Rollins Tars will take on the Tarzans of Puerto Rico Mayaguez on Tuesday night inside Warden Arena. The game will tip at 7:30 PM and you can catch all the action on 91.5 FM WPRK Winter Park and RollinsSports.com
  Rollins (2-2) is coming off a 85-82 loss to Lake Erie last time out.  Jakobi Bonner led the way with 28 points in the contest- Dayton Gumm also scored in double figures with 14. Bonner leads the team in scoring at 18.3 points per night- he also tallies a team leading 3.5 assists a game.  Brooks Cluxton scores 11.0 points per night- and- Trevor Recio scores 10.3 points along with a team leading 7.3 rebounds per night.  Rollins scores 78.3 points per game- while they allow 76.5 per night.
  The Tarzans are coming off a 113-66 thrashing against Eckerd Monday night.  Jerriel Torres scored 16 to lead Mayaguez in that one.  The team is led in scoring by Diego Mariana averaging 14 points per night- while Josue Valezguez is putting up 10.5 a game to go along with 4.5 rebounds a night.

Kynard 3-pointer Sinks Tars.

Gabe Kynard knocked down a 3-pointer with .8 seconds left to break a 82-82 tie and the Lake Erie College Storm knocked off the Rollins Tars 85-82 Friday night at Warden Arena.  With the loss Rollins fell to 2-2 on the season- while the Storm improved to 2-2 after the victory.
   Rollins was led by a game high 28 points from Jakobi Bonner. He was one of a pair of Rollins players to score in double figures in this one, as Dayton Gumm scored 14 points of his own.  The Tars shot 48 percent from the field- and- went 9-21 (43 percent) from the 3-point line.  Rollins shot 94 percent (15-16) at the free throw line, including a pair from Bonner that tied the game with 8.4 seconds to go.  The Tars had 17 assists and nine turnovers as a team.  They edged the Storm on the glass 32-31.
  The Storm were led by Kenard who paced them with 24 points- Kevin Peterson netted 16- while Jacob Plantz tallied 12.  The Storm shot 54 percent from the floor- 47 percent (14-30) from the 3-point line- and- 50 percent (5-10) at the free throw line.  They had 22 assists and 10 turnovers  as a team.
 Rollins got off to a hot start and led 10-2 in the early going.  After Plantz knocked down a 3-pointer from the Storm it would be tied at 19 with 10:01 in the opening stanza.  Rollins would open up a five point lead (27-22) after a pair of Bonner free throws three minutes later.  Trevor Recio would hit a 3-pointer for the Tars to make it 34-26 with 5:13 remaining in the half. The Storm would finish the half on a 13-0 run to take a 40-37 lead into the locker room.
  After Lake Erie stretched the lead to eight (47-39) Rollins would go on a 8-0 run to knot the game at 47 after a Brooks Cluxton layup with 14:40 to go.  The Storm would lead by 11 (65-54) at the halfway mark of half number two.  For the second straight game Rollins would start a furious come back in the game's final five minutes. At the 4:41 mark the Tars would trail by 12 but a Sheldon Odunna 3-pointer and Bonner layup would cut the deficit to 77-70.  Erron James would make it a nine point lead for the Storm- before Cade Long knocked down a 3-ball to cut it to six (79-73) with 2:26 to go. After a stop and a Cluxton put back dunk the Tars were within 79-75.  An old fashioned three-point play by Bonner at the 1:04 mark made it a one point game (79-78.)  Harrison Riggs would hit the 3-pointer for the Storm to stretch the lead to four with 48 seconds left but the Tars weren't done yet. Bonner made a pair of free throws with 40 seconds and the score was 82-80 in favor of Lake Erie.  Bonner fouled Peterson and he would miss the free throw to leave the door open for the Tars.  Bonner would tie the game at 82 with 8.4 seconds left after a layup.  Lake Erie would then call time out and would find Kynard who would knock down what would prove to be the game winner.  The Tars would get a desperation shot from Hutton Yenor from nearly half court that would fall short as time expired.
Rollins will be back in action on Tuesday when they take on Puerto Rico Mayaguez. Tip time is set for 7:30 PM from Warden Arena.

Rollins Hosts Lake Erie As They Look To Get Back on Track.

The Rollins Tars will look to get back on track Friday night when they welcome the Lake Erie College Storm to Warden Arena. The Tars are coming off a 100-95 loss to Warner on Wednesday night.
 After winning two games to begin the season, The Tars (2-1) suffered their first defeat on Wednesday as they opened the home portion of there schedule.  Rollins comes into Friday's contest averaging 77.0 points per game on the young season.
  Jakobi Bonner is one of four Rollins players averaging in double figures on the year.  Bonner comes in putting up 15 points per contest- and- the senior is coming off a team high 20 in the loss to Warner.  Dayton Gumm is putting up 14 points per night- Brooks Cluxton scores 11.7 a night- and- Trevor Recio nets 11.3 per contest. Hutton Yenor has come on strong of late and is putting up 9.7 a contest.
    Lake Erie (1-2) is coming off a 81-67 win over Wright State Lake on Tuesday night.  The Storm tallied four players in double figures in the contest paced by Kaleb Vaughn with 16.  Gabe Kynard posted a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds- while Mitch Loomis tallied 13.  Erron James also scored in double figures with 12.  The Storm are averaging 66.7 points per game as a team in the early season.  Kynard is the only Lake Erie playing averaging in double figures putting up 13.3 per night- while Vaughn is not far behind putting up 9.7 a game.
 The Tars and Storm have only met one time previously with the Storm coming away with a 79-65 win in the Winter Park Tangerine Tournament on December 29, 2012.

Tars Late Flurry Not Enough In Loss To Warner.

The Rollins Tars trailed by 19 points with a little more than four minutes to go on Wednesday night at Warden Arena, they would pull to within four in the game's final minute- but ultimately fell 100-95 to the Warner Royals. The game was an exhibition for the Royals so they remain 6-0 on the season- while The Tars fell to 2-1.
  Rollins had six players score in double figures, including all five starters.  Jakobi Bonner led the Rollins box score with 20 points- Brooks Cluxton scored 16- Trevor Recio added 13 to go along with a team leading eight rebounds- Hutton Yenor and Parker Davis each scored 11- while Dayton Gumm chipped in 10.  Rollins shot 53 percent from the floor- but just 32 percent (8-25) from the 3-point line- they shot 60 percent (25-42) from the free throw line.  Rollins won the rebounding battle 37-35. They had 21 assists and 13 turnovers as a team.
  The Royals were led by Darryl Mercer who led the way with 22 points- Maxwell Benoit chipped in 18- while Kimar Edwards netted 13.  Warner shot 48 percent as a team- 42 percent (10-24) from the 3-point line- and- 83 percent (30-36) from the free throw line.  Warner had 15 assists- and- 14 turnovers as a team.
  It would 12-8 in favor of the Royals at the first media time out of the opening half. Halfway thru the opening stanza Warner would hold a slim 28-26 lead.  After a pair of Rod Boggan free throws it would be an 11 point (41-30) Warner lead. The lead would be as many as 13, but the Tars would go on a run to get to within four (44-40) after a dunk by Gumm at the 3:07 mark of the half.  Rollins would get to within two (46-44) after a Yenor basket. Warner would ultimately take a seven point lead (51-44) into the locker room.
  Rollins would score the first five points of the second half and would take a brief lead (59-58) after a Yenor layup with 14:33 left.  That lead would be short lived as the Royals would score the next nine points to take a 67-59 advantage two minutes later.  After a Edwards jumper at the 9:55 mark Warner led 74-62.  With 5:26 in the game Warner looked to be in command leading by 18 (87-69) but the Tars battled there way back.   A pair of Yenor free throws made it 89-75 with 2:17 to go.  Another Yenor 3-pointer and a Bonner jumper cut it to single digits (91-82) with 84 ticks remaining.  Cade Long knocked down a Rollins 3-ball with 37 seconds to go and it was a six point game (95-89.)  Davis would steal the inbounds pass and the lead was cut to four (95-91) after Cluzton layup with 34 seconds. That is as close as the Tars would get though.  Rollins would get to within four two more times- but the Royals would finish it at the free throw line and get the win.

Rollins Hosts Warner Wednesday.

The Rollins Tars will host the Warner Royals on Wednesday night. Tip time at Warden Arena is set for 7 PM.
  Rollins (2-0) won a pair of  games to open the season at Auburn Montgomery. First they knocked off the hosts 76-71- before defeating Benedict 60-50 the following day. 
  The Tars are led by a trio of players averaging double figures to start the season. Dayton Gumm leads the way at 16.0 ppg- Jakobi Bonner adds 12.5 per contest- and- Trevor Recio also averages in double figures putting up 10.5 per night. The Tars average 68.0 per game as a team in the early season. 
  Warner (6-0) is coming off a 107-100 win over Middle Georgia State last time out. The Royals were led by Maxwell Beniot with 24 points- Joshua Rathell scored 17.  Darryl Mercer and Bart Schildt each scored 16 in the contest.  Joseph Martz also scored in double figures with 10.  The Royals have averaged 103.5 points per contest so far this season.

Rollins Holds Off Benedict.

The Rollins Tars got 18 points from Dayton Gumm- Hutton Yenor scored 13- and- Trevor Reccio added 12 in a 60-50 win over Benedict in the SSC/SIAC crossover at Auburn-Montgomery. With the win Rollins improved to 2-0, while the Tigers fell to 0-2 with the loss.
  The Tars shot 39 percent as a team- 32 percent (6-19) from the 3-point line- and- 90 percent (18-20) at the free throw line. Rollins and Benedict each secured 25 rebounds. The Tars had 12 assists and 15 turnovers.
 Benedict was led by Romello Jones with 10- while Deon Joyner also netted 10 points. The Tigers shot 35 percent from the field- 42 percent (5-12) from the 3-point line and 63 percent (5-8) at the free throw line. They had nine assists and 20 turnovers as a team.
 The game would get off to a slow start offensively for both teams. Benedict would go on a 7-0 run to lead 15-8 with 11:15 in the half. The Tars would then go on a 8-0 run of their own and lead 16-15 after a Yenor 3-pointer with 10:10 in the opening stanza. Rollins would get a dunk from Trevor Reccio that would make the lead six (23-17) and would ride that momentum to a 15 point lead (36-21) at halftime.
 Gumm scored 10- and- Yenor nine to lead Rollins in the first half. The Tars shot 45 percent from the field in the opening half- and- 39 percent (5-13) from the 3-point line. The Tars shot 83 percent (5-6) at the free throw line. They had 10 assists and seven turnovers.
 The Tigers were led by Jones with seven in the first half. They shot 35 percent from the field- 33 percent (2 of 6) from the 3-point line. They were a perfect three of three at the free throw line. Benedict had four assists and 14 turnovers though in the half.
 The Tigers trimmed the lead to single digits but a pair of Parker Davis free throws made it 40-29 Rollins with 14:50 to go. At the 9:55 mark the Tars still had a double digit lead (49-37.) Joe Staton would hit a pair of 3-pointer's during a 8-0 run and the Tigers were within four (49-45.)  The Tars would go 5:17 seconds without a point but still had a 52-48 lead with 2:05 to go. Free throw shooting and defense would rule the last 2:05 as the Tars would close the game out and secure the 60-50 win.

Rollins Rallies For Season Opening Win.

The Rollins Tars rallied from a 11 point deficit with 14 minutes to go and come away with a 76-71 win over Auburn Montgomery on Friday night. With the win Rollins improves to 1-0, while the WarHawks drop to 0-1 in defeat.
 Jakobi Bonner scored 17 of his 19 points in the second half to spearhead the Tars come back. He was not alone though. Brooks Cluxton scored 15 points- grabbed eight rebounds- and- blocked six shots in the win. Dayton Gumm also scored in double figures with 14 points. Rollins shot 49 percent as a team- 28 percent (5-18) from the 3-point line- and- 73 percent (19-26) from the free throw line. The Tars shot 60 percent in the second half en route to scoring 50 points in the half. Rollins had 11 assists and 17 turnovers.
 Auburn-Montgomery got 21 points off the bench from Stanley Davis who drained five 3-pointer's in the contest- Darrion Taylor added 19- and- Carlos Bell scored 10. The WarHawks shot 45 percent from the field and 44 percent from the 3-point line (10-23) in this one. They shot 63 percent (5-8) at the free throw line. The WarHawks won the rebounding battle 36-31. They had 12 assists and 18 turnovers as a team.
  Both teams got off to slow starts offensively as AUM led 16-15 halfway thru the first stanza. The Tars trailed by 12 (32-20) before closing the half on a 6-0 run to cut the deficit in half (32-26) at the break.
 Rollins trailed by 11 with 14 minutes to play but would go on a 19-7 run to lead 59-55 with eight minutes to go.
 AUM would tie the game and then take the lead after a old fashioned three-point play by Carlos Bell. The game was tied at 69 with 1:35 to go as Bonner split a pair of free throws after a taunting technical foul on AUM. Cluxon gave Rollins a brief one point lead that the WarHawks would take right back 71-70 with less than a minute left. Rollins would regain the lead after Bonner hit a pair of free throws with 21 ticks remaining. The Tars then closed it out on the defensive end and iced it at the free throw line.

Rollins Opens Campaign In Alabama Tournament.

The Rollins College Tars will open Tom Klusman's 40th season with a tournament hosted by the University of Alabama-Montgomery at the AUM Athletic Complex. The Tars will battle the WarHawks on Friday at 8:30 PM, before they battle Benedict Saturday at 3 PM.
  Rollins went 10-18 a season ago and missed the SSC tournament. They are picked to finsh seventh in the SSC preseason poll.  The Tars will return Jakobi Bonner, who led the team averaging 14.6 points a game last year. Connor McKim will return and run the point for the fourth consecutive season. The senior from Louisville averaged 13.9 points and 3.4 assists a game a season ago. Hutton Yenor also averaged double figures last season putting up 13.6 points per night. Trevor Reccio and Parker Davis also return from a season ago. Rollins has a pair of DI transfers in Dayton Gumm (Austin Peay) and Brooks Cluxton (Campbell.)
 The WarHawks are coming off a disappointing 8-20 season last year.  They went 4-16 in the Gulf South.  Carlos Bell puts up 14.4 points per game to lead AUM. Darrion Taylor returns after averaging 12.7 per game last season as he drained 69 3-pointer's on the season. Aaron Reddick also averaged double figures averaging 10.9 points a game- to go along with grabbing eight rebounds per contest.  Jeremiah Bozeman (Jackson State) and DJ Jackson (SIU-Edwardsville) are looking to be impact players this season. The WarHawks are picked to finish 12th in the conference in the preseason.
   Benedict is also coming off a tough year. The Tigers were 4-24 last season and 3-14 in the SIAC. The Tigers are picked fifth in the SIAC East Division in the preseason poll. Romello Jones and DeShawn Graham both return for there senior seasons after sharing the team lead in scoring last year putting up 11.5 points a contest. Tyrease App scored 10.8 a game last year- and- also hauled in eight rebounds per contest.
