Tars Late Flurry Not Enough In Loss To Warner.

The Rollins Tars trailed by 19 points with a little more than four minutes to go on Wednesday night at Warden Arena, they would pull to within four in the game's final minute- but ultimately fell 100-95 to the Warner Royals. The game was an exhibition for the Royals so they remain 6-0 on the season- while The Tars fell to 2-1.
Rollins had six players score in double figures, including all five starters.  Jakobi Bonner led the Rollins box score with 20 points- Brooks Cluxton scored 16- Trevor Recio added 13 to go along with a team leading eight rebounds- Hutton Yenor and Parker Davis each scored 11- while Dayton Gumm chipped in 10.  Rollins shot 53 percent from the floor- but just 32 percent (8-25) from the 3-point line- they shot 60 percent (25-42) from the free throw line.  Rollins won the rebounding battle 37-35. They had 21 assists and 13 turnovers as a team.
The Royals were led by Darryl Mercer who led the way with 22 points- Maxwell Benoit chipped in 18- while Kimar Edwards netted 13.  Warner shot 48 percent as a team- 42 percent (10-24) from the 3-point line- and- 83 percent (30-36) from the free throw line.  Warner had 15 assists- and- 14 turnovers as a team.
It would 12-8 in favor of the Royals at the first media time out of the opening half. Halfway thru the opening stanza Warner would hold a slim 28-26 lead.  After a pair of Rod Boggan free throws it would be an 11 point (41-30) Warner lead. The lead would be as many as 13, but the Tars would go on a run to get to within four (44-40) after a dunk by Gumm at the 3:07 mark of the half.  Rollins would get to within two (46-44) after a Yenor basket. Warner would ultimately take a seven point lead (51-44) into the locker room.
Rollins would score the first five points of the second half and would take a brief lead (59-58) after a Yenor layup with 14:33 left.  That lead would be short lived as the Royals would score the next nine points to take a 67-59 advantage two minutes later.  After a Edwards jumper at the 9:55 mark Warner led 74-62.  With 5:26 in the game Warner looked to be in command leading by 18 (87-69) but the Tars battled there way back.   A pair of Yenor free throws made it 89-75 with 2:17 to go.  Another Yenor 3-pointer and a Bonner jumper cut it to single digits (91-82) with 84 ticks remaining.  Cade Long knocked down a Rollins 3-ball with 37 seconds to go and it was a six point game (95-89.)  Davis would steal the inbounds pass and the lead was cut to four (95-91) after Cluzton layup with 34 seconds. That is as close as the Tars would get though.  Rollins would get to within four two more times- but the Royals would finish it at the free throw line and get the win.
Rollins will be back in action Friday night when they take on Lake Erie College. Tip time is set for 7 PM. You can catch all the action on 91.5 FM WPRK Winter Park and RollinsSports.com
