Kynard 3-pointer Sinks Tars.

Gabe Kynard knocked down a 3-pointer with .8 seconds left to break a 82-82 tie and the Lake Erie College Storm knocked off the Rollins Tars 85-82 Friday night at Warden Arena.  With the loss Rollins fell to 2-2 on the season- while the Storm improved to 2-2 after the victory.
Rollins was led by a game high 28 points from Jakobi Bonner. He was one of a pair of Rollins players to score in double figures in this one, as Dayton Gumm scored 14 points of his own.  The Tars shot 48 percent from the field- and- went 9-21 (43 percent) from the 3-point line.  Rollins shot 94 percent (15-16) at the free throw line, including a pair from Bonner that tied the game with 8.4 seconds to go.  The Tars had 17 assists and nine turnovers as a team.  They edged the Storm on the glass 32-31.
The Storm were led by Kenard who paced them with 24 points- Kevin Peterson netted 16- while Jacob Plantz tallied 12.  The Storm shot 54 percent from the floor- 47 percent (14-30) from the 3-point line- and- 50 percent (5-10) at the free throw line.  They had 22 assists and 10 turnovers  as a team.
Rollins got off to a hot start and led 10-2 in the early going.  After Plantz knocked down a 3-pointer from the Storm it would be tied at 19 with 10:01 in the opening stanza.  Rollins would open up a five point lead (27-22) after a pair of Bonner free throws three minutes later.  Trevor Recio would hit a 3-pointer for the Tars to make it 34-26 with 5:13 remaining in the half. The Storm would finish the half on a 13-0 run to take a 40-37 lead into the locker room.
After Lake Erie stretched the lead to eight (47-39) Rollins would go on a 8-0 run to knot the game at 47 after a Brooks Cluxton layup with 14:40 to go.  The Storm would lead by 11 (65-54) at the halfway mark of half number two.  For the second straight game Rollins would start a furious come back in the game's final five minutes. At the 4:41 mark the Tars would trail by 12 but a Sheldon Odunna 3-pointer and Bonner layup would cut the deficit to 77-70.  Erron James would make it a nine point lead for the Storm- before Cade Long knocked down a 3-ball to cut it to six (79-73) with 2:26 to go. After a stop and a Cluxton put back dunk the Tars were within 79-75.  An old fashioned three-point play by Bonner at the 1:04 mark made it a one point game (79-78.)  Harrison Riggs would hit the 3-pointer for the Storm to stretch the lead to four with 48 seconds left but the Tars weren't done yet. Bonner made a pair of free throws with 40 seconds and the score was 82-80 in favor of Lake Erie.  Bonner fouled Peterson and he would miss the free throw to leave the door open for the Tars.  Bonner would tie the game at 82 with 8.4 seconds left after a layup.  Lake Erie would then call time out and would find Kynard who would knock down what would prove to be the game winner.  The Tars would get a desperation shot from Hutton Yenor from nearly half court that would fall short as time expired.
Rollins will be back in action on Tuesday when they take on Puerto Rico Mayaguez. Tip time is set for 7:30 PM from Warden Arena.
