The Rollins College Tars will open Tom Klusman's 40th season with a tournament hosted by the University of Alabama-Montgomery at the AUM Athletic Complex. The Tars will battle the WarHawks on Friday at 8:30 PM, before they battle Benedict Saturday at 3 PM.
Rollins went 10-18 a season ago and missed the SSC tournament. They are picked to finsh seventh in the SSC preseason poll. The Tars will return Jakobi Bonner, who led the team averaging 14.6 points a game last year. Connor McKim will return and run the point for the fourth consecutive season. The senior from Louisville averaged 13.9 points and 3.4 assists a game a season ago. Hutton Yenor also averaged double figures last season putting up 13.6 points per night. Trevor Reccio and Parker Davis also return from a season ago. Rollins has a pair of DI transfers in Dayton Gumm (Austin Peay) and Brooks Cluxton (Campbell.)
The WarHawks are coming off a disappointing 8-20 season last year. They went 4-16 in the Gulf South. Carlos Bell puts up 14.4 points per game to lead AUM. Darrion Taylor returns after averaging 12.7 per game last season as he drained 69 3-pointer's on the season. Aaron Reddick also averaged double figures averaging 10.9 points a game- to go along with grabbing eight rebounds per contest. Jeremiah Bozeman (Jackson State) and DJ Jackson (SIU-Edwardsville) are looking to be impact players this season. The WarHawks are picked to finish 12th in the conference in the preseason.
Benedict is also coming off a tough year. The Tigers were 4-24 last season and 3-14 in the SIAC. The Tigers are picked fifth in the SIAC East Division in the preseason poll. Romello Jones and DeShawn Graham both return for there senior seasons after sharing the team lead in scoring last year putting up 11.5 points a contest. Tyrease App scored 10.8 a game last year- and- also hauled in eight rebounds per contest.
