Rollins Holds Off Benedict.

The Rollins Tars got 18 points from Dayton Gumm- Hutton Yenor scored 13- and- Trevor Reccio added 12 in a 60-50 win over Benedict in the SSC/SIAC crossover at Auburn-Montgomery. With the win Rollins improved to 2-0, while the Tigers fell to 0-2 with the loss.
  The Tars shot 39 percent as a team- 32 percent (6-19) from the 3-point line- and- 90 percent (18-20) at the free throw line. Rollins and Benedict each secured 25 rebounds. The Tars had 12 assists and 15 turnovers.
 Benedict was led by Romello Jones with 10- while Deon Joyner also netted 10 points. The Tigers shot 35 percent from the field- 42 percent (5-12) from the 3-point line and 63 percent (5-8) at the free throw line. They had nine assists and 20 turnovers as a team.
 The game would get off to a slow start offensively for both teams. Benedict would go on a 7-0 run to lead 15-8 with 11:15 in the half. The Tars would then go on a 8-0 run of their own and lead 16-15 after a Yenor 3-pointer with 10:10 in the opening stanza. Rollins would get a dunk from Trevor Reccio that would make the lead six (23-17) and would ride that momentum to a 15 point lead (36-21) at halftime.
 Gumm scored 10- and- Yenor nine to lead Rollins in the first half. The Tars shot 45 percent from the field in the opening half- and- 39 percent (5-13) from the 3-point line. The Tars shot 83 percent (5-6) at the free throw line. They had 10 assists and seven turnovers.
 The Tigers were led by Jones with seven in the first half. They shot 35 percent from the field- 33 percent (2 of 6) from the 3-point line. They were a perfect three of three at the free throw line. Benedict had four assists and 14 turnovers though in the half.
 The Tigers trimmed the lead to single digits but a pair of Parker Davis free throws made it 40-29 Rollins with 14:50 to go. At the 9:55 mark the Tars still had a double digit lead (49-37.) Joe Staton would hit a pair of 3-pointer's during a 8-0 run and the Tigers were within four (49-45.)  The Tars would go 5:17 seconds without a point but still had a 52-48 lead with 2:05 to go. Free throw shooting and defense would rule the last 2:05 as the Tars would close the game out and secure the 60-50 win.
