The Rollins Tars (7-13 0-9 SSC) had a chance once again to get what would have been their first conference win of the season. This time having the ball with a chance to win it in a tie game. A turnover on the final trip led to a Russell Wilson run out for a layup and winning basket with 1.8 seconds to go as Lynn (14-4 7-2 SSC) would go on to the 65-63 win at Warden Arena inside the Alfond Sports Center.
The Tars had three players score in double figures in what was there eighth straight loss. Six of the eight have been five points or fewer. Jeff Merton had a game and career high 23 points- Sharif Almulla netted 12- while Kyle Koszuta scored a career high 11. Rollins shot 48 percent in the loss. They shot 36 percent (8-22) from the 3-point line. Rollins shot 64 percent (7-11) at the free throw line. They had 14 assists and 19 turnovers.

They shot at a 75 percent clip (12-16) from the free throw line. The Fighting Knights won the rebounding battle 35-26. They had 11 assists and 18 turnovers.
Lynn jumped out to a 11 point lead (23-12) in the game's first ten minutes. The Tars would fight back after playing uphill the entire first half and tie the game at 35 on a pair of Almulla free throws at the 1:30 mark. Dante Scholl would hit a pair of free throws and give the Fighting Knights a 37-35 halftime lead.
Lynn would stretch the lead to six in the early part of the second half before Chris Uhle would score five straight Rollins points and a Alex Blessig layup would give the Tars the lead (43-42.) The game would go back and froth from that point as there would be six ties and four lead changes heading into the final minute.
Uhle knotted the score at 59 on a backdoor feed from Almulla that led to a dunk. The game was tied twice more and the Tars would have the ball with a chance to win it. Alex Blessig would have his pocket picked by Wilson and he would convert at the other end with 1.8 seconds left. A desperation 3-pointer by Merton as time expired would not go and the Tars would still be looking for that elusive first conference win of the season.

Third Ranked Mocs Squeak By Rollins.
The old adage says when two bitter rivals meet you can throw the records out the window. On Wednesday night that was on full display as the last place Rollins Tars battled the third ranked Florida Southern Moccassins. In the end, the Mocs erased a 10 point halftime deficit to secure the 74-70 victory at Jenkins Field House.
The Tars (7-12 0-8 SSC) went "toe to toe" with a top ten team for the second team in the past month. Sharif Almulla paced the Tars with a career high 23 points (15 coming from the 3-point line.)- while Jeff Merton added a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Rollins lost for the seventh straight time. Five of the seven losses have been by four points or fewer. The Tars shot 54 percent from the field and 38 percent from the 3-point line in the contest. They were doomed ultimately by a dismal night at the foul line. The Tars shot 60 percent (12-20) and committed 20 turnovers. For one of the few times this season Rollins won the rebounding battle 36-31.
Southern (18-1 7-1 SSC) was led by four players in double figures. Kevin Capers led the way with 17 points- Dylan Travis netted 13- Dominique Williams contributed 12- and- Tyler Kelly posted 11. The Mocs were held to 36 percent shooting on the night. They struggled from the 3-point line, shooting 29 percent (10-35.) The Mocs were solid at the free throw line where they shot 86 percent (18-21.) The Mocs only had nine turnovers in the win.
The Mocs had trouble with the Rollins zone for much of the night. After a James Ferrell 3-point play with nine minutes to go in the first half Rollins had a 20-11 lead. The Tars would stretch the lead to 15 (27-12) with 3:40 to go until halftime. That 15 point deficit, was the largest the Mocs have faced all year long. Rollins would have a 10 point lead (31-21) going into halftime.
The Mocs would take the lead for the first time in the game at the 12:35 mark after a Williams 3-pointer that made it 39-38. The teams went back and forth for a couple minutes and the Tars would grab a 46-45 lead after a Jeff Dirkin dunk at the 9:44 mark. The Mocs would go on a scoring run to take a eight point lead (55-47.) The Tars would respond with a 10-1 run to regain the lead 57-56 with 5:27 remaining. The Mocs would then go on another 10-0 spurt that would put them up 66-57. Almulla would then drain one of his five 3-pointer's to cut the lead to six (66-60) at the 2:17 mark. The Tars would not be able to pull of the stunner for the second consecutive season. Last season Rollins knocked off second ranked Florida Southern at Warden Arena.
The Tars will begin the second round of SSC play when they face Lynn on Saturday at Warden Arena. Lynn won the first meeting 80-64 on December 4th in Boca Raton. Tip time is set for 4 PM.

Tampa (11-6 4-3 SSC) was led by Austin Rettig who poured in a game high 25 points- Tyler Zacur came off the bench and drained five first half 3-pointer's to account for his 15 points- while Eugene McCrory added 14 in just 22 minutes of action.

The Tars scored the first bucket of the game on a 3-pointer by Almulla just over a minute in. They would have a early 8-7 lead but that would be the last lead of the game for Rollins. Tampa would then take control with a 13-2 run that would give them a 10 point lead (20-10.) at the 11 minute mark of the opening half.
Tampa would lead by as many as 15 in the first 20 minutes and would take a 12 point lead (40-28) at the half.
The second half would be more of the same. Tampa would stretch the lead to as many as 21 points (74-53) at the 3:34 mark. The Tars would make a late 15-1 push behind the guard play of Ferrell and Koszuta to get to within seven (76-69) at the 1:01 mark. The Tars would have a chance to get to within four but a 3-pointer was off the mark and after a pair of Spartans missed free throws Rollins was not able to grab a rebound and the Spartans would grab the victory.

Contrasting Styles On Display As Rollins Heads To Melbourne For SSC Showdown With Panthers.
The Rollins Tars and Florida Tech Panthers both come into Wednesday's SSC showdown at the Clemente Center in dire need of a win. The tempo will do a lot to determine the outcome. Rollins (7-9 0-5 SSC) is the only team in the conference with a losing record overall. The Tars have lost four straight. The last three being by a total of seven points and two of the last three being in overtime. Jeff Merton scored a career-high 18 points- Chris Uhle netted 14- while Sharif Almulla chipped in 13.
Despite his struggles during the current losing streak Alex Blessig continues to lead the Tars in scoring at 11.2 points a game. He dishes out 4.1 assists- and- gets 2.3 steals per game. Uhle continues his solid senior season averaging 10.6 points a game- he also has shot at a 42 percent clip from the 3-point line.
The Tars have been solid on the defensive end, where they have allowed a league second best 65.2 points a game. At the other end, they are the second worst in the conference scoring just 68.1 per game.
Florida Tech (10-6 0-5 SSC) is coming off a 109-96 loss to sixth ranked Florida Southern in Lakeland Saturday night. The Panthers had five players score in double figures in the loss to FSC. Jordan Majors led the way with 18 points- four others tallied double numbers, including a double-double from Corbin Jackson (15 pts. and 10 rebounds.)

Tars Fall In OT.
The Rollins Tars (7-9 0-5 SSC) played a back and forth game with the Tritons of Eckerd at McArthur Center in Saint Pete. Ultimately they would fall 64-62 in overtime.
Rollins has now lost four straight. Three of them by a total of seven points. The 0-5 start for the Tars is the worst start they have even been a part of since joining the SSC more than 40 years ago. Jeff Merton nailed a pair of free throws at the 3.3 second mark of regulation that would send the game to overtime. Merton had a career high 18 points in the loss. Two other Rollins played scored double figures. Chris Uhle had 14 points- Sharif Almulla answered the call after getting the start in this one. He tallied 13 points- four assists- and- three steals. As has been in the case in most of the Tars losses this year leading scorer Alex Blessig was held in check. Saturday he only managed six points. The Tars shot 42 percent from the field (22-53) and went 5-19 from the 3-point line. The Tars shot 72 percent (13-18) at the free throw line. They had 13 assists and 11 turnovers.
Eckerd (9-6 3-3 SEC) escaped this one after trailing by four with 1:18 remaining in regulation. They got one bounce that helped them get the game into overtime as a Jerrick Stevenson 3-pointer would give them the lead before the Merton free throws. Four Tritons scored in double figures. Stevenson led the way with 17 points- Kevin Walsh nailed four 3-pointers en route to 14 points to go along with seven assists- while Ray Darnell and Malcolm Bruner Jr. scored 10 points each. The Tritons shot 42 percent (21-50) from the field- they shot 25 percent (6-24) from the 3-point line. EC shot 70 percent (16-23) at the free throw line. EC won the rebounding battle 35-32. They had 16 assists and 15 turnovers.
This game was a back and forth affair from the get go. Neither team led by more than six points all day. The game featured 17 ties and 14 lead changes. The Tars jumped out to a 10-4 lead in the early going but that lead would be short lived as a pair of Walsh 3-pointer's would tie the game at 10. It was even basketball for the next several minutes until a quick Rollins spurt. With the Tars trailing by four (21-17) they would get a Merton bucket and a steal and bucket from Almulla to knot the game at 21. The Tars would take a 25-23 lead into the halftime break.
The second half would see the see saw affair continue. The Tars looked to be in control late as they would lead 53-49 after Merton hit a pair of free throws at the 1:56 mark of regulation. A conventional three point play by Bruner Jr. cut the Rollins to lead to one (53-52.) Uhle would miss a 3-pointer at one end and a 3-pointer by Stevenson looked to be off the mark but a fortuitous bounce would give the Tritons a two point lead (55-53) with 39 seconds remaining. Rollins would tie the game on the Merton free throws and the game headed to overtime.
The first three plus minutes of overtime was much like the rest of the game as neither team would be able to break away. Blessig hit a pair of free throws at the 1:39 mark in overtime which would be the 17th and final tie of the game. Each team would turn the ball over once after a Rollins steal and a shot clock violation on the Tars the Tritons would come out on top after a Stevenson jumper with six seconds left.
The Tars will be back in action Wednesday as they will battle Florida Tech at the Clemente Center. Tip time is set for 7:30 PM.

Rollins Heads To Saint Pete Searching For Answers Saturday.
The Rollins Tars (7-8 0-4 SSC) look to collect a win in conference play for the first time in the 2014-15 season when they head to St.Pete to battle the Eckerd Tritons (8-6 2-3 SSC) Saturday. Both teams come into Saturday's contest on a three game losing slide.
For the Tars they have been agonizingly close to a conference win the last two times out but have ultimately fallen short. The 0-4 start for the Tars in the SSC is the worst start to conference they have had since the 1982-83 campaign. As always the game will be broadcast on the Geico Tars Sports Network on RollinsSports.com and locally on 91.5 FM WPRK in Winter Park.
The last time out for Rollins was a 55-53 loss to Nova Southeastern. After falling behind by 12 (51-39) with three minutes to go and by six with 24 seconds left the Tars had a chance to win it late but a Kyle Koszuta 3-point attempt would not fall. Alex Blessig was the only Tar in double figures with 18 points- while Chris Uhle chipped in eight.
Blessig leads the Tars on the season averaging 11.5 points per game. That is good enough for 17th in the conference. Blessig is fifth in the league in assists at four per game and also sits fifth in the league in steals at 2.3 per night. Uhle has had a solid senior season. The big man from Ocala is scoring 10.4 points a contest- he has been deadly from the 3-point line where his 34 3-pointer's made is best in the conference. Uhle is also seventh in the SSC in 3-point percentage (43.6 percent on the year.) He is also second in the conference in blocked shots with 35 on the season. The Tars still sit second in the SSC in scoring defense. They only give up 65.3 points a game. On the other end they are near the bottom of the league averaging just 68.5 points per game.
The Tritons, like the Tars are coming in struggling a bit. Eckerd has dropped the last three contests. The last time out was a 80-62 loss to sixth ranked Florida Southern on Wednesday. Ray Darnell was the only Eckerd player in double digits in that game with 11 points- Keshawn Ingram and EJ Moody added nine and eight points respectively.
Jerrick Stevenson has stuffed the stat sheet for Eckerd this year. He is putting up 14 points, 5.9 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game. Moody is the only other Triton averaging double figures at 10.9 a night. Malcolm Bruner Jr. leads the team in rebounding at 6.6 a night- to go along with his 9.3 points. The Tritons are in the middle of the pack in both offense and defense for the season. They average 73.1 points a game on the offensive end- while on the defensive side of the ball they give up 71.4 per contest.
The Tars won both meetings with Eckerd last season.

Sharks Hand Reeling Tars Another Defeat.
The Nova Southeastern Sharks looked to be in control at Warden Arena with roughly about three minutes to go. NSU had a 12 point lead and almost gave it away. After being down 51-39 the Rollins Tars got to within one (54-53) with 11.5 seconds to go but ultimately would have dug themselves to deep of a hole. A open 3-pointer would not fall for Kyle Koszuta and the Tars desperation heave as time expired would be too late. NSU would go on to the 55-53 win inside the Alfond Sports Center.
Nova Southeastern (6-7 2-3 SSC) snapped a three game losing skid despite trying to give the game away at the end. After leading by six with 24 seconds to go a couple missed free throws and turnovers would open the door for the Tars. NSU was playing shorthanded after losing Brian Cahill (eye) and Matt Carroll (who has been out all season to this point.) The Sharks had three players score in double digits in the win. Chris Page who came into the game as the second leading scorer in the SSC at 20.4 ppg scored 19- Stian Berg chipped in 11- while Justin JeanGerard added 10. The Sharks shot 34 percent (19-56) from the field in the win. They shot 39 percent (14-36) from the 3-point line. NSU nearly gave the game away by shooting 38 percent (3-8) at the free throw line. Each team tallied 40 rebounds. The Sharks had 17 assists and 15 turnovers.
The Tars (7-8 0-4 SSC) lost for the third consecutive time at home. They were paced by Alex Blessig with 18 points- Chris Uhle added eight points- three rebounds- and- three blocked shots. The Tars shot 37 percent from the field (22-60)- they settled for far to many jump shots and shot at a 24 percent clip (8-33) from the 3-point line. Rollins only got to the free throw line one time, as Mike Bedulskis made the only free throw attempt of the game. The Tars had 13 assists and 15 turnovers.
The first half was a see saw affair that wouldn't see either team take more than a three point lead in the first 15 minutes. A Bedulskis old fashioned 3-point play at the 5:03 mark would give the Tars a three point lead (26-23.)
Both teams offenses went cold over the next five minutes plus and the Tars would take a 28-27 lead into the locker room. NSU came out as the aggressor in the second half and they would open up a 13 point lead (49-36) at the 7:39 mark of the game. The Tars would then go go small, playing four guards and Jeff Dirkin on the floor at once and that defensive unit would spark a 12-3 run that would cut the NSU deficit to four (52-48) at the 1:38 mark. A Page layup at the :24 mark would stretch the lead to six but the Tars would not go quietly. Kyle Koszuta would nail a 3-pointer to get the lead to three (54-51.) After a NSU turnover, the Tars would get to within one (54-53) at the 11.5 mark. After the timeout the Sharks were forced into a five second call. So the Tars would have a chance to take the lead but a Koszuta 3-pointer would be off the mark with six seconds to go. Berg would make one free throw and miss the second before the Tars last second heave attempt would be for not.
Rollins will look to find some answers when they head to Saint Pete to take on Eckerd Saturday. Tip time is set for 4 PM.

Tars Welcome Nova Wednesday.
The Rollins Tars (7-7 0-3 SSC) welcome the Sharks of Nova Southeastern (5-7 1-3 SSC) to close out a five game stretch of home games Wednesday at Warden Arena. Tip time is set for 7:30 PM and you can catch all the action with Jim "Shooter" Ferro and Robert Seigel on 91.5 FM WPRK and worldwide on the Geico Tars Sports Network at RollinsSports.com.
Rollins comes in on a two game losing slide. The Tars dropped a tough one 57-54 in overtime against Saint Leo on Saturday. Saint Leo led 20-19 at the half, the game was tied at 51 at the end of regulation and the Tars held a brief one point lead after a Chris Uhle 3-pointer at the 2:25 mark of overtime but could not hang on for the win. Jeff Merton led the Tars with 16 points on Saturday- while Uhle added 13 points- three rebounds- and- six blocked shots. The six blocked shots.
Alex Blessig is leading the Tars in scoring at 11.1 a game. The junior has struggled in the past two losses though. Blessig was held to one point in the loss to Barry and just five in the loss to Saint Leo.
Rollins is second in the SSC allowing just 66.0 points per game. At the other end the Tars are eighth in the SSC scoring just 69.6 points a night. Uhle is putting together a solid senior campaign. He comes into Wednesday putting up 10.6 points per night- the big man from Ocala is one of the best 3-point shooters in the conference, having made 32 3-pointer's. That is good for fourth in the SSC. He is second in the league in blocked shots with 32.
NSU also comes in on a brief losing skid. The Sharks have lost three in a row. The last time out was a 77-74 loss to seventh ranked Florida Southern. The Sharks are the only team in the SSC with a losing record. The game against Southern was tied at halftime and the Sharks led late in the second half but could not get the win. Three Sharks scored in double figures in the loss to Florida Southern. Chris Page led the way with a game high 27 points- Maurice Fuller chipped in 14- and Justin JeanGerrard scored 10.
Page leads the Sharks box score and is second in the SSC putting up 20.4 points a game. Harrison Goodrick nets 11 points a night- while JeanGerrard is scoring 10.5 points and grabbing 5.5 rebounds per contest. Troy Spears leads the conference in 3-point shooting percentage (50 percent.)
The Sharks and Tars met three times a year ago. NSU come out on top in two of those meetings. A 75-71 overtime win ended the Tars season at the SSC tournament a year ago.

Lions Trip Up Tars In OT.
The Saint Leo Lions have had trouble with the Rollins Tars for several years. Saturday they needed an extra five minutes to get the job done, but Leo came out with a 57-54 win. The win for the Lions gave them 20 wins in 101 meetings with Rollins.
Saint Leo (10-5 2-2 SSC) won for the sixth time in the last seven tries overall. They were led by Edmunds Dukulis, who put up 16 points. Cale Girten continued his solid season from the 3-point line. Girten scored 11 points, including three 3-pointer's. He came into the game shooting 47 percent from the 3-point line on the season and went 3-4 on Saturday. The Lions shot 42 percent from the field and 38 percent from the 3-point line. The Lions were a solid 79 percent (15-19) at the foul line. They out rebounded the Tars 36-22. Saint Leo had 12 assists and 17 turnovers.
The Tars (7-7 0-3 SSC) also had a pair of players in double figures. Jeff Merton had a career high 16 points to go along with five rebounds. Chris Uhle added 13- to go along with six blocked shots. Jeff Dirkin chipped in eight.
Rollins shot 40 percent from the floor in the game. They made 7-22 3-pointer's (32 percent.) They shot 69 percent (9-13) at the free throw line. They had 16 assists and 12 turnovers.
Both teams showed from the get go why they are the top two defensive teams in the SSC. The Tars led for much of the first half. After a Jeff Merton 3-point play at the 5:59 mark they would lead 17-13. The Tars then went scoreless for the next five minutes and Leo scored the next seven points. A Mike Bedulskis runner with just under a minute remaining would make it 20-19 Lions at the half.
The first four minutes of the second half both teams also showed why they are the bottom two offensive teams in the conference. Merton would tie the game at 23 but then the Lions would go on another spurt and lead 29-23 a minute later.
The Tars would fight back and tie the game at 32 with just under 11 minutes to go. Then the see saw affair would see several ties and lead changes. After all was said and done the game would be tied seven times and the lead would change hands 11 before the end of regulation. The Tars looked to be in control with four minutes to go as a pair of Scott Schuette free throws would give them a 47-41 lead. Over the next 2:11 the Tars offense would go stagnant and the Lions would score on each of it's three straight trips to knot the game at 47 with 1:49 to go. Ron Foxx would hit a bucket to give the Lions the lead back but Merton would tie the game with a layup at the :49 mark. Foxx and Merton would again trade buckets and the score would be tied at 51 with 27 seconds to go in regulation. A jumper by Foxx to win it was off the mark, Crisosto got the rebound but his tip in was to late and the game headed into overtime.
Marcus Dewberry gave the Lions the lead to start the OT but a Uhle 3-pointer would give the Tars the lead right back. That would be only bucket of the overtime for Rollins. The difference would be four late free throws by the Lions to win it. Foxx hit a pair at the 1:25 mark to give the Lions a 55-54 lead. Girten would then hit the two free throws to account for the final score. The Tars had one last chance to tie it but Foxx got a steal off of a Blessig pass and the Lions would have a rare win in Winter Park.
The Tars will be back in action Wednesday when they close out this five game home stand. Nova Southeastern will be the opponent. Tip time is set for 7:30.

Tars-Lions Look To Get On Track Saturday.
The Rollins Tars and Saint Leo Lions will meet for the 101st time Saturday at Warden Arena in Winter Park. Despite winning the conference last season Leo went 0-2 against Rollins. You can catch all the action on 91.5 FM WPRK and worldwide at RollinsSports.com
Rollins (7-6 0-2 SSC) is coming off a tough 73-64 loss to #8 Barry in Winter Park Wednesday. The Tars led by 12 in the early stages of the second half but could not handle the Bucs pressure in the second half. Chris Uhle had a career day with 23 points on 5-of-7 shooting in the loss. Jeff Merton added 12- while Sharif Almulla added eight.
Alex Blessig is the Tars leading scorer at 11.6 a game. The junior is coming off his second one point game of the season on Wednesday. Not surprisingly the Tars lost both contests (Seattle Pacific.) Saint Leo (9-5 1-2 SSC) has won five of the last six. The last time out the Lions fell 71-66 to seventh ranked Florida Southern. Similar to the Tars and Barry, Leo led for much of the way but could not hold off the highly ranked Mocs. Just like Rollins Leo had a 12 point lead before falling. Devin Crisosto led the way with 13 for the Lions- while Edmunds Dukullis added 12 in the defeat.
Ron Foxx leads the Lions and is fourth in the SSC at 15.6 points a game. Crisosto is second on the team at 10.4 a night- Marcus Dewberry also averages double figures at 10.3 per night.

Uhle's Career Day Not Enough For Tars.
