For one day the Rollins Tars had it all figured out. After a couple weeks off for Christmas Break Rollins came out with great energy and took it to the Sailfish of Palm Beach Atlantic 89-61 at Warden Arena.
The Tars (6-5) were led by four players in double figures. On this day they got contributions from everyone that played. Alex Blessig led the way with 17 points. He added five assists and three steals. Jeff Dirkin notched a season high 16 points to go along with five rebounds, four assists and a pair of blocked shots. Sharif Almulla continued his torrid shooting of late with 14 points off the Rollins bench. Jeff Merton stuffed the stat sheet with 13 points, six rebounds and five assists.
PBA (5-5) was led by Dakota Zinzer with 17 points. Garet Tucker added 15- while Clark Major grabbed 10 rebounds.
The Tars shot 55 percent (32-58) from the floor. They were 10-26 from the 3-point line. The Sailfish shot 40 percent (20-50) for the game. The Tars won the rebounding battle 35-28. PBA was 4 of 17 from the 3-point line on the day. They shot 68 percent (17-25) at the free throw line. PBA had 12 assists and 16 turnovers. The Tars shot 75 percent (15-20) at the foul line. Rollins had 27 assists and 10 turnovers in the win.
On the first possession of the game PBA got a 3-pointer to take a 3-0 lead. After that the Tars would go on a 26-6 run over the next 12 minutes to take a 17 point lead (26-9.) Merton got going early as he scored the first six Rollins points. The Tars would lead by as many as 22. They would take a 20 point lead (45-25) at the half.
The second half saw the Tars go on a 13-0 run and take a 58-26 lead. The Tars lead would be as large as 41 points (76-35) at the 10:12 mark. That was the biggest lead of the season. The Sailfish would get no closer than 27 the rest of the way.
