The Rollins Tars (7-12 0-8 SSC) for the second time this season will meet the Fighting Knights of Lynn University. This time at Warden Arena inside the Alfond Sports Center. The Tars come in, as the ninth place team in the SSC and will have to win a few games to have a chance to qualify for the SSC tournament in Kissimmee come March. The Fighting Knights, who were picked ninth in the preseason poll are third in the league halfway thru the season. Rollins comes into the contest having lost seven straight. The losing skid is the longest for the Tars since 1997. Although the seven losses have been by an average of just five points a game. The first meeting with Lynn on December 4th was the first conference game of the season and was dominated by the Fighting Knights by a final of 80-64. Alex Blessig had a career high 26 in the defeat. The last time out the Tars were a 74-70 loser to third ranked Florida Southern. They held the high powered Mocs offense to a season low 21 points in the opening half. They also led by 15 in this one, which was the largest deficit FSC has faced this season. Sharif Almulla led the Tars with a career high 23 points behind a five of seven night on 3-point attempts. Jeff Merton also had a solid game. The freeman from Naples scored 11 points- grabbed 11 rebounds- and- dished out six assists in the defeat.
Alex Blessig leads the Tars scoring 11.1 points a game- He is also top five in the league in both assists (3.9 a game) and steals (2.3 a contest.) Chris Uhle has also been solid this season. The senior big man is scoring 10.4 points a game- grabbing 4.4 rebounds- and- blocking 2.1 shots a night. Uhle is the Tars all-time leader in blocked shots.
The Tars have been solid on defense all season long. They continue to sit second in the SSC by allowing just 66.7 points per game. At the offensive end, Rollins has struggled and will need to improve on a 68.2 a night average.
The Fighting Knights (13-4 6-2 SSC) are coming off a 87-70 win over Florida Tech at the Clemente Center Wednesday night. Pavel Raikovich paced the Fighting Knights with 22 points in the easy victory. Aaron Harrison and Benjamin Berry each had 18 to round out the double digit scorers for Lynn.
Lynn has a pair of players averaging double figures on the year thus far. Harrison is fifth in the SSC as he puts up 15.5 points a night. he also grabs 5.9 rebounds- gets three steals- and- two assists per game. Berry chips in 10.5 points a game. While Russell Wilson leads the team in assists at 6.3 per night.
Lynn is a SSC third best on offense, scoring 79.9 points a game- while they give up a league fourth best 69.6 per contest.
