Contrasting Styles On Display As Rollins Heads To Melbourne For SSC Showdown With Panthers.

The Rollins Tars and Florida Tech Panthers both come into Wednesday's SSC showdown at the Clemente Center in dire need of a win.  The tempo will do a lot to determine the outcome. The Tars want to slow the tempo and play a game in the 50's or 60's- while the Panthers want to run and score in the 80's or 90's.
Rollins (7-9 0-5 SSC) is the only team in the conference with a losing record overall.  The Tars have lost four straight.  The last three being by a total of seven points and two of the last three being in overtime.  The last time out  Rollins was a 64-62 overtime loser to Eckerd in a game that featured 17 ties and 14 lead changes.  Three Tars scored in double figures in the loss. Jeff Merton scored a career-high 18 points- Chris Uhle netted 14- while Sharif Almulla chipped in 13.
Despite his struggles during the current losing streak Alex Blessig continues to lead the Tars in scoring at 11.2 points a game.  He dishes out 4.1 assists- and- gets 2.3 steals per game.  Uhle continues his solid senior season averaging 10.6 points a game- he also has shot at a 42 percent clip from the 3-point line.
The Tars have been solid on the defensive end, where they have allowed a league second best 65.2 points a game. At the other end, they are the second worst in the conference scoring just 68.1 per game.
Florida Tech (10-6 0-5 SSC) is coming off a 109-96 loss to sixth ranked Florida Southern in Lakeland Saturday night.  The Panthers had five players score in double figures in the loss to FSC.  Jordan Majors led the way with 18 points- four others tallied double numbers, including a double-double from Corbin Jackson (15 pts. and 10 rebounds.)
Chris Carter leads FIT scoring 14.2 points a night- while Jermaine Jackson is  chipping in 13.9 a night.  Corbin Jackson is nearly averaging a double-double (13.4 points and 9.7 rebounds) per contest.  Jackson also tops the league in blocked shots at 3.5 per night.
The Panthers are fourth in the SSC in scoring at 78.8 points per night- while at the other end they are the worst in the SSC allowing 78.7 per night.
