The Rollins Tars fell to 8-7 and 4-3 in the SSC with a 80-68 loss to Palm Beach Atlantic at Rubin Arena Wednesday night. The Sailfish improved to 10-8 overall and 4-3 in the SSC.
PBA was led by Grant Gullett who had 20 points and 13 rebounds. Jules Jamsin and Marshall Riddle netted 15 points each for the "Fish." PBA shot 56 percent as a team- and- 33 percent (8-24) from the 3-point line. They shot 64 percent (18-28) from the free throw line. PBA easily won the rebounding battle 42-26. They had 18 assists and 16 turnovers in the win.
Rollins was led by Jeff Merton who scored 18 points. Sam Philpott scored 14- and- Connor McKim added 11. The Tars shot 44 percent from the floor- and- 31 percent (8-26) from the 3-point line. Rollins was a dismal 29 percent (4-14) at the free throw line. They had 14 assists and 10 turnovers as a team.
The Sailfish lead 10-5 in the early going. They would stretch the lead to 16 (32-16) midway thru the opening half. Rollins would then go on a 13-0 run of their own and get to within three (32-29) on a Merton 3-pointer with 5:11 in the half. PBA would respond with a 9-0 run to stretch the lead to 12. The Tars would score the last four of the stanza and trailed by eight (41-33) at the intermission.
The Tars got to within two a pair of times but could not tie or take the lead in this one. The Tars were doomed by poor free throw shooting in this one. 66-63 would be the closest they would get with just under six minutes to go and PBA would get the victory.
Rollins will be back in action Saturday when they return home to face Nova Southeastern. Tip time is set for 4 PM at Warden Arena. As always you can catch all the action on RollinsSports.com
