The Tampa Spartans (12-6 5-4 SSC) will look to continue there recent dominance of the surging Rollins College Tars (10-9 4-5 SSC) when the two clash in a key Sunshine State Conference showdown on Wednesday night. The Tars are coming off a superb week when they knocked off then second ranked Florida Southern on Wednesday and then came away with a 61-59 win at Saint Leo against the defending conference Regular Season Champs. Alex Blessig paced the Tars with 16 points in the win at St.Leo. The sophomore transfer from Florida Gulf Coast added seven rebounds and a pair of assists. Chris Uhle knocked down four 3 pointer's on his way to a 14 point day.
Rollins continues to excel on the defensive end of the court where they are leading the SSC allowing just 63.5 points a night. Those numbers have the Tars sitting ninth nationally. The Tars are ninth in the league on offense scoring just 67.9 points a contest.
Mitch Woods is the Tars top scorer at 13..8 points a game. The senior is coming off a week in which he averaged 22 points a night. Blessig scores 10.2 game and is averaging a team leading 3.5 assists a night. Jeff Dirkin leads the team averaging six rebounds a game- he is fifth in the conference shooting 56 percent from the field.
Tampa comes in losers of two of the last three, but they were a 68-67 winner over Barry on Saturday. Eric Moraes scored 19 points and grabbed 12 rebounds- he also had the game winning dunk in Saturday's win. Jordan Davis had 15, while Ryan Kidd netted 14.
Tampa is second on defense in the league giving up just 65 points a game. The Spartans score 68 a game on offense.
Da'Marko Foster paces the Spartans at 15.8 points a game. Davis scores 11.8 a night and dishes out 7.1 assists a contest. Eric Moraes rounds out the double figure scorers at 11.8 a game- and is grabbing a team leading 7.9 rebounds a night.
Tampa was a 76-63 winner at the Bob Martinez Center back on January 4th.
