A Look Around The SSC: Nova Southeastern

Nova Southeastern, formerly known as Nova and now commonly called NSU is a private, co educational, nonsectarian research university located in Broward County, Florida.  It's main campus is in Fort Lauderdale.  The university is the eighth largest not for profit private university in the nation.  NSU operates eight Student Educational Centers in Florida, the latest being a 300 campus located 24 miles north of Downtown Miami.
The University was Nova University of Advanced technology on a former Naval Landing Field built during World War II.  The first degrees offered at the university were physical and social sciences.  Leo Goodwin Senior left a 16 million dollar gift to the university in 1971 which funded it's expansion thru the 1970's and 1980's.  In 1994 the college merged with the Southeastern University of the Health Sciences and assumed its current name.
NSU currently consists of 18 colleges and schools offering over 175 programs of study with more than 250 majors. The university offers degrees in law, business, medicine, pharmacy, and nursing amongst others.  IN 2011-12 Nova enrolled 28, 457 students and had over 145,000 alumni.
NSU is classified as a high research and community engaged university by the Carnegie foundation.
NSU is a DII school in the SSC and competes in 17 intercollegiate sports.  They have ten woman's and seven men's teams.  They are as follows:

The school's nickname is the Sharks. They play basketball at the Don Taft University Center, also known as "The Shark Tank".   It is by far the nicest venue in all of the conference and is nicer than most DI facilities.
