The Rollins Tars (4-4) will take on the Saint Martin's Saints (3-6) in the first game of the Dixie State Las Vegas Challenge on Wednesday. Tip time is set for 5:30 PM and you can catch all the action on the Geico Tars Sports Network at 91.5 FM WPRK and worldwide at RollinsSports.com
The Tars are back in action after a 13 day lay off, as they make the annual trip to Las Vegas. They were a 80-64 loser to Lynn the last time out. If the Tars want to have any chance against Saint Martin's they will have to cut down on the 27 turnovers they made in that contest. Alex Blessig had a career high 26 points versus the Fighting Knights but was the only Tar in double figures. He leads Rollins in scoring at 14 points a game. Blessig adds 3.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists per contest. Chris Uhle is the only other Tar scoring double figures. The big man from Ocala is averaging 10.4 points and 5.4 rebounds per contest. Uhle has 18 blocked shots on the season. That is good for second in the Sunshine State Conference and 21st nationally.
The Tars are putting up 71.1 points a game. At the other end, Rollins is giving up 68.1 points a night. The glass has been a problem for the Tars this season. They are being out rebounded by 5.1 rebounds per contest.
Rollins has typically had success in Las Vegas. They were 13-7 in the ten years prior to last. Last season the Tars fell to Saint Mary's and Washburn in Vegas.
The Saints were a 67-64 winner over Alaska Fairbanks in the last game they played. Trey Ingram and Riley Carel each scored 11 in the victory.
A pair of Saint Martin's players average double figures on the season. Tyler Copp is the top scorer with 10.8 points a game while Ingram puts up 10.6 a game to go along with 4.4 assists.
