Tars Begin Title Defense Wednesday.

The 21st ranked and top seeded Rollins College Tars (22-6 13-3 SSC) will begin the defense of the Sunshine State Conference title when they take on a familiar foe. The Barry Buccaneers (9-17 5-11 SSC) will come to Warden Arena as the 8th seed Wednesday. The Tars defeated Barry in the championship game a season ago at Nova Southeastern to claim the school's third conference tournament title. In all three instances the Tars defeated Barry (1992, 2006 and 2010). The Tars are 27-28 all time in the conference tournament. They have a record of 11-4 as the top seed and are 16-7 in the quarterfinals. 1991 was the only season that Rollins did not reach the finals when they were the top seed.
The Tars are led by All American Nick Wolf. The Senior from Cincinnati comes into the tournament averaging 20.6 points and 10.1 rebounds a game. Wolf is riding a streak of 95 consecutive games that he has scored in double figures. He is third in Rollins history with 1,934 points. Wolf is second all time grabbing 1,008 rebounds and 10th in Tars history with 321 assists. He is also second in Tars history with 88 victories. Matt Robertson had a solid Senior campaign. The Senior from Birmingham averaged 14.8 points and grabbed 6.2 rebounds a game. Myk Brown averaged 13 points a game. The Junior from Gainesville was last season's tournament Most Outstanding Player.  The Tars come into the tournament with a undefeated record vs Nova (2-0) and Lynn (1-0). They lost once to Florida Tech (3-1) and have had problems with Florida Southern (0-11) and Tampa (1-7).  Ian Scott led the Tars with 51 steals while Chris Malcolm blocked 41 shots.
Barry comes into this one as a heavy underdog. The Buccaneers only went 1-9 on the road this season. Willie Whitfield leads Barry with averages of 15.5 points and 10.7 rebounds a game. Zach Trapp netted 11.2 a contest, while Evan White netted 10.7 a night. The Bucs come in averaging just 64.9 points a game as a team. They allowed 69.5 a contest. Barry shot 43% from the field and 32% from the three point line on the season. They struggled at the foul line shooting just 65.6%.
Rollins won both regular season meetings easily. In the first contest on January 5th the Tars rolled to a 76-50 win. In the return meeting at Barry on February 9th the Tars rolled 70-54.
