The Rollins College Tars (23-6) look to win the conference tournament title for the second straight year Sunday at the Clemente Center on the campus of Florida Tech. The Tars reached the title game by defeating Barry 83-62 on Wednesday and then the top seeded Tars knocked off Tampa 67-62 on Saturday night. The Tars are heading to the final behind the play of four Seniors. Sunshine State Conference Player of the Year Nick Wolf had 25 points on Saturday. Alex Castillo, Nikola Baran and Matt Robertson had 10 points each. Castillo has come on strong late in the season. The Senior played 30 minutes on Saturday off the bench. Castillo logged 26 minutes in the opening round win over Barry. Wolf, Robertson and Baran also scored in double figures against Barry.
The third seeded Tritons (22-7) upset second seeded Florida Southern 70-69 to reach the finals. Eckerd needed overtime to turn back Lynn in the opener Wednesday. Sunday's final is a rematch of last season's semifinal won by the Tars. The Tritons are led by John Harper. The point guard led EC with 11 points Saturday. Three other Tritons (Quincy Okolie, Dale Carn, and Lance Kearse) scored in double figures with 10 points each.
In the opening round win over Lynn it was Kearse who scored a career high 22 points. Harper added 17 while Okolie netted 15.
The Tars swept the regular season series with the Tritons. In the first meeting a 70-69 win by Rollins Myk Brown scored a game high 20 points. Nick Wolf had 14 for the Tars. In the second meeting Brown netted 22 points, while Matt Robertson and Wolf added 12 points each.
In the two losses vs the Tars Harper and Carn led the way for the Tritons. Harper scored 21 and 15 points in the two meetings. Kearns added 16, and 14 in the two contests.
