The 16th ranked and 3rd seeded Rollins College Tars (25-6) will open play in the NCAA South Regional hosted by the University of Alabama Huntsville when they take on the Florida Southern Moccasin's (22-8) at 1 PM eastern Saturday. The Mocs come in as the sixth seed in the region.
The Tars come into Saturday's contest riding a four game win streak. The Tars are led into the regional by three players having stellar season's. National Player of the Year candidate, Sunshine State Conference Player of the Year and Sunshine State Conference Tournament Most Outstanding player Nick Wolf comes into the game averaging 20.9 points and 10.1 rebounds a game. Wolf comes in with 2,006 points and 1,036 rebounds. Wolf needs just 26 points to take over second place on the Tars all time scoring list. Wolf is also tied with Nate Rusbosin with 91 wins in his Rollins career and a win Saturday would make him the winning est player in Tars history. Matt Robertson averages 14.6 points and 6.1 rebounds a night in his Senior season. Myk Brown averages 12.2 points a night but has been quiet in the past five contests.
The Tars are 11-12 all time in regional play in school history. A year ago the Tars defeated Alabama Huntsville (this year's host) and Barry before falling in the regional final to Valdosta State.
Florida Southern comes in to the regional after finishing in second place in the SSC regular season and falling to Eckerd 70-69 in a thriller at the Clemente Center on the campus of Florida Tech in the Sunshine State Conference tournament. The Mocs are led by four players in double figures. Rion Rayfield leads the way at 15.8 points a game. The brothers Jenkins have had solid seasons as well. Terry scores 14.8 points a night while Brandon adds 13. Damon Ellison socres 10.8 points a contest. The Mocs were 16-2 at home on the season but just went 6-6 on the road (5-4) or at neutral sites (1-2). The Mocs average 81.5 points a contest. They are a solid free throw shooting team at 78.3 percent. The Mocs are very good from three. They hit 43 percent from the three point line led by Terry Jenkins (43.9 percent) and Rayfield (43.3 percent).
