Taken To The Brink!

The Rollins Tars (3-0) knew the Webber International Warriors were going to be a pesky bunch coming into Monday night's contest at Warden Arena and they would need an extra session to take care of the visiting Warriors 75-67.
Four Tars scored in double figures on the night. Jeremy Sharpe scored seven of his 22 points in the overtime. Brett Chance had a career high 14 points, while Dave Diakite and Ian Scott had 11 points each. Chris Malcolm also made an impact. Malcolm had 9 points, 11 assists and 3 blocks, including a pair of blocks in the extra session on the same possession with the game still in doubt.
The Warriors (2-7) who have played four division one opponents thus far this season were led by 21 points from Johnson Mesidor. David Swan netted 18 for Webber.
The Tars  led by 12 at the break (38-26) after shooting 50 percent in the opening half.  The lead would stay at 12 for the next four minutes. Rollins would then go thru a offensive lol and Mesidor and Swan would get hot from three point land and the Warriors would be up 50-48 with eight minutes to go. The Tars looked to regain command leading 59-54 after a good defensive stretch with 2:19 to go. The Tars would not score the rest of the way and the Warriors would score the last five points to force overtime. The Tars would have a chance on the last possession but Myk Brown missed a reverse layup and Chris Malcolm's put back did not go.
In the OT Sharpe would hit a three, then Swann would hit a 3-pointer of his own to tie the game. Sharpe would hit a fade away jumper to give the Tars a 64-62 lead they would not give up. Chris Malcolm would have a pair of blocks, Dave Diakite a thunderous dunk, and Ian Scott would seal it at the foul line.
Rollins shot 41 percent for the night while the Warriors shot 40 percent. The Tars were 9-23 from three point land while the Warriors were 8-27. Rollins went 20-28 (71 percent) while Webber International was 5 of 8 (63 percent) at the foul line. The Warriors won the battle on the boards 42-37. Rollins had 13 miscues as opposed to 16 for the Warriors.
Rollins will wrap up this brief three game home stand Wednesday when they face Puerto Rico-Piedras at noon at Warden Arena. As always you can catch all the action on 91.5 FM WPRK Winter Park and round the wold at Rollinssports.tv.
