The tenth ranked Rollins Tars (7-0) will face Western Washington (10-1) on Thursday evening at the South Point Arena in Las Vegas,Nevada. The Vikings lone loss was 80-71 to Chestnut Hill back in early November.
The Tars have traditionally fared well in the Vegas tournament, whether it be the High Dessert Classic (through 2010) or Great Western Shootout since. The Tars won a pair of games in last year's event and were led by MVP Nick Wolf (currently playing in Madrid).
This year's Tars have reeled off seven straight wins to start the year and cracked the top ten this week. In the Tars last contest Ian Scott and Jeremy Sharpe netted 13 points each while Chris Malcolm had 12 points and a career high 14 rebounds in a hard fought 66-63 win over Southeastern. The Tars come into the shootout averaging 70.7 points a contest, while giving up just 58.9 a game. Jeremy Sharpe leads four Tars who average double figures on the season at 14.4 points a contest. Myk Brown chips in 13 points a game, while Ian Scott and Chris Malcolm score ten points each a night. Malcolm leads the team in rebounding (8.1 ppg) and blocked shots (19 for the season). Scott leads the team in assists (4.86 a game) and steals (3 a game).
The Vikings of Western Washington come into Thursday on a eight game win streak. They have two signature wins (number 3 BYU Hawaii and Number 19 Seattle Pacific).
