The Rollins Tars (1-1) bounced back from a poor shooting performance Friday evening, with a solid display on Monday. The Tars had all five starters score in double figures as they knocked off Puerto Rico Bayamon (1-3) 71-57.
Mitch Woods paced the Tars with 18 points, while Kyle McClanahan tallied 11 points, six assists and three steals. Brett Chance also netted 11 for the Tars. Jeff Dirkin and Dave Diakite rounded out the double digit scorers with 10 points each.
The Tars shot the ball well Monday. They shot at a 50 percent clip from the field, and hit 10 of 18 from the 3-point line. The Tars dominated the boards, out rebounding Bayamon 36-21.
The Cowboys lost for the second straight time to a Sunshine State conference opponent. Victor Caratini led the Cowboys with 15 points while Jeshua Ayala netted 12 points to go along with six boards.
The Tars jumped out early and took a 4-0 lead out of the gate. After Bayamon battled back to tie the game the Tars ran off six straight to lead 17-11 midway thru the first half. The Tars would stretch the lead to 43-27 at halftime behind some hot shooting from the 3-point line.
The Tars would stretch the lead to 55-38 and then make it 58-41 with just over 12 and a half minutes to go. The Cowboys would make one last run to get it to a ten point game but that is as close as they would get.
The Tars will be back in action Wednesday when they host Puerto Rico Rio Piedras. Tip time is set for noon. As always you can catch all the action on 91.5 WPRK Winter Park and worldwide at RollinsSports.com
