The Rollins College Tars improved to 2-1 Wednesday with a 87-53 win over Puerto Rico Rio Piedras (1-3) at Warden Arena.
Dave Diakite led the way for the Tars with 16 points, while Brett Chance added 15. Adam Allen scored 13 off the bench. Every Tar who dressed on Wednesday afternoon got into the scoring column. The Tars shot 46 percent from the field and were 12-29 (41 percent) from the 3-point line. The Tars shot 73 percent (19-26) from the foul line. Rollins dominated the boards, winning 42-24.
Hector Maldonado led a pair of players in double figures with 23 points. Enrique Tech added 11 points on five of five shooting.
The Tars jumped out to a 15-5 lead early after a pair of Mitch Woods 3-pointers. The Tars stretched that lead to 34-17 as Brett Chance knocked down a couple of three's. The Tars would lead by as many as 19 (38-19) in the opening half. It was 40-24 Tars going into the locker room.
The Tars would come out and go on a 13-4 run capped off by a Diakite to McClanahan alley oop to make it 53-28. The Tars would removed all doubt with a 12-2 run to stretch the lead to 35 (69-34) with six minutes to go. Piedras would not get any closer than 28 the rest of the way as the Tars cruised to victory.
