Tars Host Eckerd In SSC Opener Saturday.

The Rollins College Tars (3-1) riding a three game win streak host the Eckerd College Tritons in the Sunshine State Conference opener for both teams on Saturday afternoon at Warden Arena in Winter Park.  The Tritons come in with a perfect 2-0 record on the young season.
   After losing the season opener 58-50 to Warner University the Tars have won the last three by an average of 28 points a contest.  Rollins rolled past Puerto Rico Bayamon 71-57 and Puerto Rico Rio-Piedras  87-53 before pounding Palm Beach Atlantic 89-54 on Wednesday evening.  The Tars have scored 82 points a contest in the three game win streak after scoring just 50 in the season opener. Brett Chance is leading the Tars in scoring. Chance is putting up 12 points a game, Dave Diakite is scoring 11.5 points a night and grabbing 5.8 rebounds a game. Kyle McClanahan has put up 10.3 points, five rebounds, five assists and 1.6 steals a game.
  The Tars have been very good on both the defensive end and rebounding in the early going. They are allowing just 56 points a game on the defensive end and are +8.3 rebounds a night in the season's first four games.  On offense the Tars have nailed 9.3 3-pointers a game while averaging 69.3 points per game.
  Eckerd has played just two games thus far and have a perfect 2-0 record. In the opening two games, a Thanksgiving tournament the Tritons knocked off Puerto Rico Bayamon 72-58 and held off a late rally to beat Clark-Atlanta 72-70.
  Jerrick Stevenson leads the Tritons averaging 12.5 points a game. Malcolm Bruner Jr. and Woody Taylor are putting up 11.5 points a contest while Alex Bodney scores 10.5 points a night. The Tritons lead the SSC in 3-point percentage making 48 percent of it's shots from the 3-point line. Eckerd and Tampa are the lone undefeated teams remaining in the Sunshine State Conference.
