The Rollins College Tars came into Saturday's game with Eckerd at Warden Arena riding a three game win streak and facing a stiff test with Eckerd coming to town. The Tars were dynamite on Saturday in a 73-45 thumping of the Tritons.
The win improved the Tars to 4-1 on the season and 1-0 in SSC play. Offensively the Tars were led by 17 points from Brett Chance, Adam Allen chipped in 13 and Kyle McClanahan added 13 points, seven rebounds, eight assists and two steals. The Tars shot 52 percent from the floor in the contest and knocked down 42 percent (11-26) from the 3-point line. The Tars out rebounded Eckerd 33-30. The Tars had 20 assists and 16 turnovers. The Tars went 8-13 (62%) at the free throw line.
Eckerd fell to 2-1 on the season and 0-1 in SSC play. No one on the Tritons scored in double figures. Alex Bodney was the leading scorer with seven points, Malcolm Bruner Jr. and Jerrick Stevenson added six points each. The Tritons shot 31 percent from the field and hit just three of 19 from the 3-point line. They were 12-19 (63 percent) at the foul line. The Tritons had just six assists on 15 made baskets. They turned the ball over 17 times.
The Tars would control this one from start to finish. After eight minutes Rollins would jump out to a 12-6 lead. Brett Chance would hit one of his three 3-pointers to spark a 13-1 run that would stretch the Tar lead to 25-7. The Tars would lead 35-13 heading to the locker room. The Tritons went just 4 of 22 shooting in the opening half, while the Tars were 14-28.
The second half saw the Tritons trim the lead to 20 but that is as close as they would get. The Tars would lead by as many as 40 (62-22) with 9:53 left.
The Tars will take a week off for Finals before returning to action Friday when they take on Southeastern University.
