#19 Rollins Holds Off Eckerd In OT Thriller.

The Rollins Tars needed five extra minutes on Saturday to do so, but they stopped a two game losing streak and completed a season sweep of the Eckerd College Tritons at the Macarthur Center.  69-66 was the final score as the Tars improved to 15-4 (7-2 SSC.) The Tritons dropped to 12-5 overall and 5-4 in the SSC with the loss.
Dave Diakite paced the Tars with 21 points on the day to go along with eight rebounds. Kyle McClanahan chipped in 16 points and Adam Allen had nine.  The Tars shot 38 percent from the field and hit 35 percent (9-26) from the 3-point line.  The Tars shot 67 percent (18-27) at the foul line. The Tars had 15 assists and 10 turnovers.
The Tritons four game win streak came to an end at the hands of the Tars. Darrien Mack led Eckerd with 22 points to lead all scorers. Mack also had nine rebounds and four assists.  Woody Taylor added 13 points and nine rebounds.  They shot 35 percent from the field and hit 37 percent (7-19) from 3-point land.  The Tritons shot 75 percent (21-28) at the foul line.  The Tritons won the rebounding battle 42-35.  Eckerd had 14 assists and 12 turnovers.
The game went back and forth much of the way. After the first several minutes it was tied at 13. The Tars then went on a 8-0 run to take a 21-13 lead midway thru the first half. The Tars would stretch the lead to 29-18 with 3:41 in the half. The Tritons would then close the half on a 10-2 run to cut the Tars lead to three (31-28) at the break.
The Tars would stretch the lead to six at the 14:33 mark. Eckerd would have an answer and would ultimately take the lead 51-50 eight minutes later.  After a pair of ties and a pair of lead changes Jeff Dirkin would nail two free throws to make it 54-53 with 3:58 to go.
The next two minutes would saw both teams go ice cold and not be able to score. The Tritons would then get a three from Alex Bodney to go up 56-54. Nine seconds later Diakite would answer with a three of his own to silence the Triton faithful.   Malcolm Bruner would give Eckerd a 58-57 lead with a minute to go after a lay up.
After a McClanahan runner in the lane with 38 seconds left the Tars would lead 59-58. Mack then split a pair of free throws for the Tritons on the next possession. The Tars would have a chance to win it but a Jeff Dirkin three would not go to force overtime.
The Tars scored the first three points of the OT and would outscore the Tritons 10-7 in the extra session.   The Tars had one field goal and made eight free throws in the overtime.  Rollins improved to 2-0 in overtime games on the season, while the Tritons fell to 0-2.
The Tars will be back in action Wednesday when they host Tampa. Tip time at Warden Arena is set for 7:30 PM. You can catch all the action on WPRK Winter Park and at RollinsSports.Com
