Another Slow Start Dooms Tars.

The Rollins Tars got off to another rough start and ultimately would fall 76-60 to Saint Leo in a big Sunshine State Conference showdown on Saturday at Warden Arena.
The loss dropped the Tars to 17-7 and 9-5 in the SSC. Rollins is now in a virtual tie for third place with Eckerd in the league standings. Scott Schuette led the Tars with five 3-pointers and a career high 17 points. The sophomore from Lexington Catholic was also two of two at the free throw line. Kyle McClanahan netted 14 points, to go along with four rebounds and four assists. Adam Allen chipped in 13 points in a losing effort. The Tars shot 38 percent (19-50) for the game. They shot 10-29 (34.5 percent) from the 3-point line. Rollins shot 66.7 percent (12-18) at the free throw line. The Tars won the rebounding battle 32-28. They had 10 assists and 18 turnovers in the loss.
Saint Leo improved to 20-5 and 12-3 in the SSC. They clinched the regular season title and the top seed in the upcoming Sunshine State Conference Tournament when Florida Southern lost to Florida Tech Saturday night. The 20th ranked Lions had four players tally double figures Saturday. Jerrel Harris paced the Lions with a game high 23 points, this included a perfect 10-10 at the free throw line. Trent Thomas provided a huge spark off the Lions bench and netted 15 points. Shaun Adams posted a 13 point day, and Marcus  Ruh scored 12 for Saint Leo. The Lions shot 43.5 percent (20-46) on the day. They were six of 15 from the 3 point line (40 percent.) The Lions made a living at the foul line where they shot 85.7 percent (30-35.) The Lions had six assists and nine turnovers.
The game started with both teams struggling offensively and after a McClanhan 3-pointer the Tars would have a 3-2 lead nearly five minutes into the contest. The Tars would then go ice cold and Trent Thomas would score 10 points off the Leo bench and spark a 13-0 run that would give the Lions a 15-3 lead. That lead would be stretched to 13 (21-8) with 4:30 left in the opening half. The Lions would lead by 16 (34-18) at the half.
The Lions would stretch the lead to 23 (53-30) with 10:45 to go.  The Tars would get to within 10 (58-48) behind a pair of Brett Chance 3-pointers with 6:19 to go. The Tars would get it to eight (60-52) on a Adam Allen tip in with 3:47 to go but that is as close as they would get.
Rollins will look to bounce back on Wednesday. The Tars will host Barry on Senior night. Tip time at Warden Arena is set for 7:30 PM. You can catch all the action on WPRK 91.5 FM Winter Park and worldwide at RollinsSports.com
