Diggin' Deep!

The Rollins College Tars (17-6 9-4 SSC) did not play there best game of the year by any stretch of the imagination on Wednesday night at the Don Taft University Center. For the second straight game it was a defensive struggle. The Tars prevailed 56-48 over Nova Southeastern.
Kyle McClanahan led all scorers with a game high 23 points on the evening. Dave Diakite added eight points and 10 rebounds, while Mitch Woods and Adam Allen had eight points each.  The Tars shot 36 percent for the game, including 32 percent (10-31) from three.  Rollins made good on 80 percent (12-15) from the foul line.  The Tars won the rebounding battle 31-28, had 13 assists and 14 turnovers. The Tars also added nine steals (three by Brett Chance.)
NSU fell to 13-11 overall and 5-8 in the SSC. Justin Jeangerard led the way for the Sharks with 15 points, Maurice Fuller netted 11, Lukas Roesch and Iran Hollis had seven  each. The Sharks shot 37.8 percent on the night and hit on 9-25 from the 3-point line. NSU shot 62.5 percent (5-8) at the foul line. The Sharks had 11 assists and 15 turnovers.
For the first time in nearly a month the Tars got off to a quick start. Brett Chance nailed a 3-pointer on the Tars opening possession to get them off and running.  Nova would tie the game at eight in the early going but would never lead in this one. The Tars would run off a 8-1 run and lead 16-9 midway thru the opening half. The Tars lead would balloon to as many as 12, and they would lead 29-19 at the half.
The second half would start the same way the first did, as this time it would be Dave Diakite who buried the three to give the Tars a 32-19 lead. The lead would be as many as 14 (41-27) before the Sharks would make a run to cut it to 46-39 at the 7:23 mark. That would be as close as the Sharks would get the rest of the way.  The Tars have now won seven of the past eight versus NSU.
