Tars Losing Skid at Nine After Getting Drubbed By PBA.

Just when you think the season of low's couldn't get any worse for the Rollins Tars this happens.  Rollins suffered a pair of losses in the last couple days. The Tars learned today that junior back up point guard James Ferrell would be out for the remainder of the season with a broken thumb. It was originally thought to be a sprain for the Winter Park High grad. Then the Tars went out and could not do anything right in a 86-65 loss to Palm Beach Atlantic at Rubin Arena. This, the same PBA team that the Tars beat 89-61 at Warden Arena just over a month ago.
The Sailfish (8-11) were led by four players in double figures. Evin Graham stuffed the stat sheet with 17 points- eight assists- and- seven rebounds.  Micahel Simpson who came into the game averaging just over five points a game knocked down five 3-pointer's en route to his 15 points.  Nigel Sydnor and Ronnell Ross chipped in 13 each. Ross did not play in the first meeting with the Tars in Winter Park.
The hot shooting Sailfish shot 58 percent (33-57) from the floor and were a sizzling 50 percent (16-32) from the 3-point line.  PBA struggled at the foul line where they shot 50 percent (4-8.)  The Sailfish won the rebounding battle 33-26.  They had 22 assists and 17 turnovers.
The Tars (7-14 0-9 SSC) were led by a 21 point effort from Jeff Merton.  Sharif Almulla was the only other Tar in double figures with 12 to go along with eight rebounds.  The Tars shot 46 percent (27-59) from the floor. They were a frigid 24 percent (6-25) from the 3-point line.  Rollins also shot 50 percent (5-10) at the free throw line.  They had 16 assists and 15 turnovers.
It was the Sailfish who got out to an early 9-2 lead in the first few minutes.  The Tars would counter with an 11-0 run to take a 13-9 lead after a Merton 3-pointer at the 13:18 mark.  The game would stay tight for the next few minutes until the Sailfish would open up a eight point lead (30-22) after a Sydnor 3-pointer with 5:57 until halftime.  The game would be played fairly evenly the rest of the half and the Sailfish would have a 40-33 lead at the intermission.
The second half would begin with Sydnor and Chris Uhle trading 3-pointers.  Rollins would get to within three (45-42) after a Merton jumper at the 15:38 mark.  The Tars would keep the lead in single digits until Ross and Simpson would hit back to back 3-pointer's to put PBA up 13 (64-51) at the 8:28 mark.  PBA would lead by as many as 25 (82-57) at the 2:30 mark and would cruise to the victory.
The Tars will be back in action Saturday when they head to Saint Leo. Tip time is set for 4 PM. The Tars lost to the Lions in overtime in Winter Park.
