The Tarleton State Texans rolled past the Rollins College Tars 72-53 at the Doolittle Center on Wednesday. With the win the Texans improved to 9-2 on the season. Rollins fell to 7-4 on the year after the loss.
Parker Davis was the leading scorer for Rollins on the day with 14 points- two other players tallied double figures as well, as Hutton Yenor scored 12 off the bench- while Jakobi Bonner chipped in 10. Rollins shot 32 percent on the day- 31 percent (11-35) from the 3-point line- and- converted on both free throw attempts (2-2.) Rollins had 15 assists and six turnovers in the defeat.
The Texans were led by 20 points and 13 rebounds from Josh Hawley- Randall Broddie netted 15- Corinithian Ramsey tallied 12- and- Richie Mitchell had 11. The Texans were hot from both the field (56 percent on 25-45 shooting-) and- the 3-point line (50 percent on 14-28.) The Texans shot 67 percent (8-12) from the free throw line. The Texans easily won the rebounding battle 38-24. They had 20 assists and 17 turnovers as a team.
The Texans jumped out to a 17-3 lead before a Yenor 3-pointer at the 12:48 mark of the opening half. The score was 17-8 before Broddie 3-pointer gave the Texans a 12 point lead (20-8) with 7:55 in the half. Tarleton State would lead by 21 (36-15) going into halftime.
The Texans lead would balloon to 27 (46-19) before the Tars went on a 11-0 run capped by a Davis 3-pointer. Tarleton State would score for the first time in over five minutes on Broddie layup with 11:24 to go. The Tars would not get any closer than 17 the rest of the way as the Texans secured the victory.
