Tars Travel To Las Vegas For Pair Of Games In Holiday Hoops Classic

 The Rollins College Tars (6-4 1-3 SSC) travel to Las Vegas for a pair of games in the Holiday Hoops Classic this weekend. On Saturday (12/20) Rollins takes on the University of Hawaii at Hilo at 9 PM Eastern time while the following day they will take on the Colorado School of Mines Orediggers. Jim "Shooter" Ferro will be on the call alongside long time Rollins head coach Tom Klusman. 

 Noting the Tars: Rollins has won two straight. Last time out they beat South Florida Bible 85-57 after picking up their first conference win in a 84-78 victory over Tampa in the previous contest. Rollins scores an SSC sixth best 86.4 points per game while they give up an SSC second best 72.3 points per night. Rollins shoots a league third best 48.2 percent from the field, an SSC second best 37.9 percent from the 3-point line, and shoot at a 73.2 percent clip from the free throw line which is fourth in the league. They dish out an SSC sixth best 18.3 assists per contest as well. The Tars are third in opponent field goal percentage (41.6 percent.) seventh in guarding the 3-point line (34.6 percent) Lead the league in rebounding margin grabbing 14.3 (43.3-29) boards per contest. They are eighth in trouser margin (-1.30,) sixth in assist to turnover ratio while they swat an SSC eighth best 3.1 shots per game. They also get 7.3 steals steals per game which is seventh in the conference.  Jah Nze leads the team in scoring at 17.8 points per game. he is joined in double figures by mar Figueroa 16 points per night, while Marshall Klug is the teams third leading scorer at 9.5 points per contest. Matus Malovec leads the team in rebounding at 5.5 per game, Nze leads the team getting two steals per night, Ryan Renfro averages one block per game. Figuroa shoots 51.9 percent from the field, 50 percent from the 3-point line, and also leads the team with 30 assists on the year. Klug also shoots 54 percent from the field while he shoots 86.1 percent from the free throw line. 

Noting the Vulcans: Hawaii Hilo (0-7) has not left Hawaii but has dropped some tough games in the early season. Last time out the Vulcans were a 80-74 loser to Hawaii Pacific. Jamal Entezami paced the Vulcans with 23 points, Alex Horiuk had 17, and Julio Montes tallied 10 in the defeat. he Vulcans shot 42.9 percent from the field, 34.6 percent (9-26) from the 3-point line, and 78.6 percent (11-14) from the free throw line in a losing effort. The Vulcans average 67.3 points per game while they allow 76.7 points per contest. UHH shoots 42.9 percent from the field as a team, 30.4 percent from the 3-point line, and 60.9 percent at the free throw line. On the boards the Vulcans are being out rebounded by 7.8 (34.6-42.4) rebounds per contest. They dish out 12.3  assists per game and steal the ball 6.9 times per game. They also block 3.0 shots per game, while they turn it over 14.9 times per game. Montes leads the team scoring 13 points per night, Entezami gets 12.1 per game, and Horiuk nets 10 per game. Brody Davis leads the team pulling down 8.2 rebounds per game. Montes and Jessiya Hosein lead the team with 18 assists each for the season. Entezami leads the team with 10 steals and Horiuk has a team leading 10 blocked shots. 

Noting the Orediggers: It has been a rare down year thus far for the School of Mines (4-8.) It is the first time since the 2021-22 season the Orediggers have won less than 25 games. Going back even further with the exception of that 2021-22 season the School of Mines has won at least 23 games in each season since the 2014-15 campaign. Last time out the Orediggers fell 81-73 to Colorado Mesa. Of the four wins secured by Mines three of them have come at home. Prior to playing the Tars on Sunday Mines will take on Montana State Billings. In the loss to Mesa five Orediggers scored in double figures led by Alex Romack with 16, Markus Pastorcic- Straun added 15, Jonathan Moore netted 13, Cooper Mrozeck had 12, and Braydon Jacob tallied 10. Mines shot 35.1 percent from the field, 33.3 percent (8-24) from the 3-point line, and 65.8 percent (25-38) from the free throw line. The Orediggers score 78 points per game while they allow 78 per night. They shoot 43.7 percent from the field, 33.1 percent from the 3-point line, and 69.5 percent at the free throw line. They dish out 15.5 assists per game, turn it over 13.5 times per night, steal the ball 7.1 times per game, and block four shots per contest. The opposition shoots 46 percent from the field, 30.9 percent from the 3-point line, while on the glass they are +2.8 (38.3-35.4.) while they also force 10.8 turnovers per contest.
