Five Tally Double Figures As Rollins Knocks Off Saint Leo.

 Five Rollins players scored in double figures as they knocked off the Saint Leo Lions 85-74 at Warden Arena on Wednesday. With the win Rollins improves to 8-5 and 2-3 in the SSC. The Lions fall to 6-6 and 1-3 in the SSC after the loss. 

 Both teams got off to a slow start on the offensive end as the game was knotted at 8 after a Mayson Quartlebaum basket at the 13:19 mark of the opening half. The Tars would open up a six point lead (16-10) after a Michael Kalina layup with 9:48 in the opening stanza. After taking a nine point lead (26-17) on a Jah Nze  layup with 5:33 until halftime. The next five points went the way of the Lions. Rollins would eventually take a 12 point lead (39-27) at halftime. Rollins shot 51.5 percent from the field in the opening half, 23.1 percent (3-13) from the 3-point line, and 66.7 percent (2-3) from the free throw line in the half. Saint Leo shot 33.3 percent from the field, 33.3 percent from the 3-point line (3-9) and 40 percent (2-5) from the free throw line in the opening 20 minutes. 

 The lead grew to 17 in the opening minute of the second half. After a Lenz Dupont hoop the Lions got to within 10 (51-41) with 15:11 to go. The lead would stay in double digits much of the rest of the game as one last push by Saint Leo would get them within nine ((76-67) with 2:10 to go. Nine would be as close as Saint Leo would get the rest of the way as Rollins pulled out the win. 

 Omar Figueroa paced the Tars with 22 points, Jackson Gaffney added 14, Nze scored 13, Ryan Renfro added 12 points and 12 rebounds, while Quartlebaum scored 11. As a team Rollins shot 46.2 percent from the field, 32 percent (8-25) from the 3-point line, and 81 percent (17-21) from the free throw line. Rollins dominated the rebounding battle 51-26. They had 16 assists and 14 turnovers in the contest. 

 Donovan Hill led Saint Leo with 27 points, Luther Smith added 13 points, and Matthew Ansah tallied 10. The Lions shot 41.3 percent from the field, 25 percent (6-24) from the 3-point line, and 80 percent (16-20) at the free throw line. They had 11 assists and eight turnovers as a team. 

 Rollins will be back in action Saturday when they battle  Barry in Miami Shores. Tip time is set for 4 PM.
