Balanced Attack Helps Tars Stop Skid at Three With 96-88 Win Over Embry-Riddle.

 The Rollins College Tars got 28 points from Omar Figueroa, 23 for Jah Nze, and a career high 21 from Ricky Ghedini in a 96-88 win over Embry-Riddle on Wednesday night at Warden Arena inside the Alfond Sports Center. With the win Rolllins improves to 10-8 and 4-6 in the SSC. The Eagles fall to 8-9 and 5-5 in the SSC following the defeat. 

 The two teams went back and forth in the first four minutes as the game would be knotted at 8 early on. The Tars then got a spark offf the bench as William Jobe hit a triple and a bucket followed by a Ghedini hoop to go up 15-8 1:30 later. After an ERAU run the game would be knotted at 19 as Jared Berry made a layup with 11:04 until halftime. After a brief lead for the Eagles Jackson Gaffney would knock down back to back triples for the Tars. The Tars would grow the lead to 13 (51-38) by halftime. 

 ERAU came out of the locker room hot and after a Dawson Barr trey was within five (52-47.) Rollins would go on a run of their own and lead by 15 (64-49) after an Nze layup with 14:44 to go. The Tars would take their largest lead of the game at 16 (72-56) after a Figueroa hoop with 12:07 to go. A 9-0 run by the Eagles made the score 72-65 Rollins after an Evan Montanari basket with 10:01 on the clock. Rollins would maintain a double digit lead much of the next few minutes until Berry knocked down a pair of free throws to get ERAU within seven (80-73) with 4:41 to go. Rollins looked to be in complete control with 2:10 on the clock as they led 88-75 after a pair of Nze free throws. That is when the Eagles furious rally started as ERAU amped up the defensive pressure. This sparked a 10-0 Eagles run capped by a pair of  Berry free throws, a steal, and a Logan Lewis layup that made it 88-85 with 45 ticks remaining. Figueroa, Ghedini, and Nze would make free throws in the final 45 ticks to come away to ice the home win for the Tars.

"We had a spirited few days of practice and you never know if that is going to carry over into the game. We have battled some adversity here of late and it was nice to come out with this home win," Rollins assistant coach Kyle Frakes said in the postgame show. 

Rollins shot 49.2 percent from the field, 45.5 percent (10-22) from the 3-point line, and 74.3 percent (26-35) from the free throw line in this one. Each team had 35 rebounds. Rollins had 16 assists and 12 turnovers in the contest. 

Berry led ERAU with 22 points to go along with 12 rebounds, Barr knocked down six triples on his way to 20 points, and Jack Klinger tallied 13. The Eagles shot 44.3 percent from the field, 34.5 percent (10-29) from the 3-point line, and 82.8 percent (24-29) at the free throw line in the loss. They had 13 assists and 15 turnovers in this one. 

Rollins will be back in action on Saturday when they head to Saint Leo. Tip time from the Marion Bowman Activities Center is set for 4 PM.
