Rare Home Clunker Leads To Lynn Sweep Of Tars

For much of the 2025-26 basketball season the Rollins College Tars have been rock solid at home. That was not the case on Wednesday night as for just the third time in 11 tries Rollins left Warden Arena with a loss. It was never much of a game as the Tars fell to 11-9 and 5-7 in the SSC with the 86-69 loss. Lynn improved to 11-8 and 6-6 in the SSC and completed the season sweep of Rollins.

Jackson Gaffney opened the scoring with a triple for Rollins but it was answered by a Max Polk triple for Lynn. After Matus Malovec and Brandon Iulli traded buckets the Fighting Knights went back on top with a hoop by Austin Vick. Malovec scored again to knot the game at 7 at the 16:50 mark of the first half. Lynn took the lead on a Svein Birgisson trey After a pair of free throws by Mayson Quartlebaum Rollins trailed the Fighting Knights 12-11. Lynn scored the next four points before Jah Nze knocked down a triple to make it 16-14 Lynn with 12:57 in the opening half. After a John Roland three-point play Rollins answered with a Omar Figueroa triple. Lynn opened up a seven point lead when Nze  knocked down his second trey to make it a 24-20 Rollins deficit at the 10 minute mark of the half. The lead was stretched to seven but the Tars again got to within three (29-26) after a Ricky Ghedini hoop with 8:14 in the opening half. After an Iulli layup Rollins got a hoop from Nze and a Michael Kalina layup to pull within one (31-30) with 5:38 in the first half. The two teams traded baskets to make it 33-32 when Lynn went on a 9-0 run to take a 10 point lead (42-32) as Polk scored six of the 10 points during the run. Four Rollins free throws (three by Figueora and one by Quartlebaum) got them within six (42-36) with 1:52 in the half. The Fighting Knights would end up taking a 10 point lead (48-38) into the locker room. Rollins shot 41.9 percent from the field, 26.7 percent (4-15) from the 3-point line, and 88.9 percent (8-9) from the free throw line in the first stanza. Lynn shot 51.4 percent from the field, 41.2 percent (7-17) from the 3-point line, and 71.4 percent (5-7) at the free throw line in the opening 20 minutes.

Lynn came out and took complete control of the game in the opening minutes of the second half as they went on a 10-0 run to lead 58-38 with 16:38 to go. A Figueroa triple finally got Rollins on the board in half number two. That sparked a 8-0 run by Rollins as a Niemann trey made it 58-46. The lead would grow to as many as 21. Another 8-0 Rollins spurt got them to within 13 (72-59) after a Figueroa layup at the 6:12 mark. Rollins would get to within 12 on a pair of occasions but that is as close as they would get the rest of the way as they fell to Lynn for the second time this year. The only Rollins player in double figures was Figueroa with 15, Ghedini added nine, while both Nze and Kalina added eight. Rollins shot 40 percent from the field, 33.3 percent (9-27) from the 3-point line, and 84.2 percent (16-19) from the free throw line. They had 19 assists and 11 turnovers in the contest.

Lynn was led by Roland and Polk who each netted 18, Antoine Jacks added 13, and JP Baron tallied 11. Iulli had nine points, nine rebounds, and nine assists. The Fighting Knights shot 48.5 percent from the field, 37.5 percent (12-32) from the 3-point line, and 71.4 percent (10-14) from the free throw line in the contest. Lynn won the rebounding battle 39-34. They had 22 assists and just three turnovers in the game.

Rollins will be back in action on Saturday when they host Eckerd at Warden Arena. Tip time is set for 4 PM.
