Rollins Rolls Past Mayaguez.

The Rollins Tars improved to 3-1 on the season Friday, as they rolled past the Tarzans of Puerto Rico Mayaguez 104-79 in the home opener at Warden Arena.  The Tarzans dropped to 0-5 on the season.
Jakobi Bonner and Jeff Merton paced the Tars with 16 points each- Joey Galvis added 15- and Deion Clark chipped in 13.  Every Rollins player who saw action Friday scored at least three points.  The Tars shot 63 percent from the field as a team.  They also shot very well from the 3-point line where they shot 52 percent (13-24-) and the free throw line where they shot 82 percent (27-33.)  The Tars edged the Tarzans on the boards 35-29.  Rollins had 25 assists and 18 turnovers.
Mayaguez was led by 18 points a piece from Francisco and Luis Lopez- Alexis Parilla added 11 points- while Alexander Curet netted 10.  The Tarzans shot 40 percent from the field in defeat- they shot at a 30 percent clip (7-23) from the 3-point line- at the free throw line they shot 67 percent (26-39.)  They had 14 assists and 12 turnovers.
The Tarzans would score the game's first four point before Clark would get the Tars on the board at the 17:46 mark of the opening half.  Rollins would take their first lead of the game on a Connor McKim 3-pointer at the 15:47 mark of the half.  The Tars would extend the lead in the next several minutes and would cap a 16-4 spurt with a another Clark basket that would make it 32-16 at the 5:57 mark of the opening half.  The lead would be 27 (56-29) at the intermission.
The second half would be much like the first was.  The Tars would get what would be the biggest lead they would have all night at 33 points (76-43) at the 12:44 mark. They would cruise the rest of the way.  18 would be as close as the Tarzans would get.
Rollins will be back in action on Monday when they open the conference schedule, as they rekindle the rivalry with Florida Southern. Tip time at Warden Arena is set for 7 PM. You can catch all the action on the Geico Sports Network on 91.5 FM WPRK and worldwide at RollinsSports.com
