Tars Shrug Off Slow Start To Rally Past CAU.

The Rollins Tars shrugged off a first half where they shot 28 percent from the field and rallied in the second half for a 69-60 win over Clark-Atlanta in the SSC/SIAC Crossover at Morehouse College on Friday night.
Sam Philpott led four Tars in double figures with 18 points- while Joey Galvis , Jeff Merton and Deion Clark each added 13 points on the night. Clark posted a double-double as he would add 12 rebounds in the game.  The Tars shot 39 percent from the field in this one.  They shot 30 percent (7-23) from the 3-point line.  Free throw shooting was also a struggle where they shot 57 percent (12-21.)  The Tars had 14 assists and 19 turnovers.
The Panthers fell to 0-1 on the year after the loss. They were paced by 13 points from Derek Harper- Shamiek  Sheppard and Tim Sanders added 12 points each for CAU.  The Panthers shot 30 percent from the field- and 19 percent (5-26) from the 3-point line.  Foul shooting also hurt the Panthers, as they would shoot 59 percent (17-29.)  The Panthers won the rebounding battle 52-42.  They had just eight assists, but turned it over 25 times.
Both teams got off to a slow start, before the Tars finally got on the board on a Mike Bedulskis field goal three minutes in.  The lead would change hands four times in the opening half, but it would be all CAU most of the way as they would take a nine point lead (36-27) into halftime.
The Panthers would score the first three points of the second half to open up a 12 point lead (39-27.)  With 12:42 to go Rollins would trail by 12 (48-36) when the comeback would begin.  A 13-3 Rollins run would cut the lead to two, before they would tie the game on a Clark basket at the 7:38 mark (53-53.)  Merton would nail a 3-pointer at the 5:15 mark to give the Tars a one point lead (58-57) The rest of the way including the Merton 3-pointer the Tars would end the game on a 14-3 run to post the 69-60 victory.
The Tars will be back in action Saturday at 430 when they take on host Morehouse. Tip time is set for 430 PM. You can catch all the action on the Tars Sports Network at RollinsSports.com and on 91.5 FM WPRK.
