The Rollins Tars got a win for the second time in as many days today. This one a 86-76 victory over the WarHawks of Auburn-Montgomery. With the win Rollins improve to 2-0 on the season- while the WarHawks fell to 1-1.
Jakobi Bonner paced the Tars with a game high 27 points- Connor McKim added 17- and- Chu Enechionyia added 10. Rollins shot 48 percent as a team- 23 percent (4-17) from the 3-point line- and- 78 percent (28-36) from the free throw line. The Tars had 12 assists and 15 turnovers as a team.
UAM was led by Darrion Taylor with 19 points- Carlos Bell added 15- and- Stanley Davis chipped in 12. The WarHawks shot 50 percent from the field and 37 percent (11-30) from the 3-point line. They shot 72 percent (13-18) from the free throw line. They won the rebounding battle 30-29. UAM had 16 assists and 23 turnovers in the contest.
The Tars jumped out to a 28-8 lead in the game's first nine minutes. The WarHawks battled back and got to within four (40-36) at the 1:46 mark of the first half. Rollins would score the final four points of the half capped by a Daniel Loh dunk to go up by eight (44-36) at the intermission.
The Tars would stretch the lead to 15 (64-49) midway thru the second half. Once again the WarHawks would not go away. They chipped away at the lead and got to within five (67-62) at the 5:51 mark. A quick 5-0 Rollins run would get the lead back to double digits though. The WarHawks would not get any closer than seven the rest of the way.
