11 Players Score As Rollins Defense Shines In Rout of Eagles

 The Rollins College Tars saw 11 players find the scoring column while they played stellar defense. Rollins held the University of Fort Lauderdale Eagles to 37 percent shooting from the field and 17.6 shooting (3-17) from the 3-point line in a 93-60 rout on Wednesday night at Warden Arena. With the win Rollins improves to 2-1 on the season. The Eagles fall to 4-2 with the defeat. 

 The game started out with Rollins scoring the games first five points before the Eagles scored the next six. A 6-0 answer by the Tars gave them the lead 11-6 on A Ryan Renfro layup at the 15:10 mark of the first half. That lead grew to 13 (25-12) as Jah Nze hit a pair of triples with the second being at the 10:20 mark of the opening stanza. The Eagles got to within five (27-22) on a a layup by Vugar Kuliev at the 7:56 mark of the half.  Rollins would take command as the next basket for UFL didn't come until the 2:21 mark of the half as Rollins would go on a 11-0 run over that span. The Tars would cap off the first half as Ian Hart buried a 3-pointer in the waning seconds to take a 20 point lead (48-28) at the break. 

 Rollins shot 64.5 percent from the field and 42.9 percent (6-14) from the 3-point line in the half. They shot 67 percent at the free throw line (2-3) in the half as well. For the Eagles they shot 36.1 percent from the field, 0-9 from the 3-point line, and 2-2 at the free throw line in the first 20 minutes. 

 On the opening possession of the second half Marshall Klug knocked down a 3-pointer and was fouled. He made the free throw to convert the four point play and stretch the Rollins lead to 24 (52-28.) Rollins led by as many as 40 in the second half as they rolled to a second straight win. 

 For the game Rollins shot 58.6 percent from the floor, 48.1 percent (13-27) from the 3-point line, and 54.5 percent (12-22) from the free throw line. Omar Figueroa and  Klug led the way with 17 points, Jackson Gaffney netted 11, while  Nze and  Renfro each tallied 10. Rollins dominated the glass 51-20 and had 23 assists to go along with 23 turnovers. 

 UFL was led by Chris Berry with 13 while they got 10 from Kuliev. They shot 37.1 percent from the field, 17.6 percent (3-17) from the 3-point line, and 55 percent (11-20) at the free throw line. They had eight assists and 10 turnovers in the contest. 

 Rollins will be back in action Saturday as they open Sunshine State Conference play in Boca Raton against Lynn. Tip time is set for 4 PM.
