You can say what you want about the 2025-26 Rollins College Tars men's basketball team. One thing you can't deny though is that they will keep you at the edge of your seat until the final buzzer. For the third time in four games on Saturday afternoon the Tars had a game that was decided in the games last three seconds (two of three being on the wrong end.) On Saturday Rollins let one slip away and fell 94-92 to Lynn at the D'Hoernle Center. With the loss Rollins falls to 2-2 on the year. With the win the Fighting Knights improve to 2-1.
The teams went back and forth in the early going. After a triple by Jah Nze the Tars took a 17-15 lead at the 15:40 mark of the first half. Lynn then opened up an eight point lead (26-18) after a John Roland free throw. The Fighting Knights built on that lead and went up 16 (50-34) at the 4:51 mark of the half. Rollins cut into that lead as they got to within four (53-49) after a 15-3 run to close the first 20 minutes. Rollins shot 53.3 percent from the field, 58.3 percent from the 3-point line (7-12), and 76.9 percent from the free throw line (10-13) in the opening stanza. Lynn shot 51.6 percent from the field, 61.1 percent (11-18) from the 3-point line, and 76.9 percent (10-13) at the free throw line in the half.
Rollins started the second half with a Marshall Klug bucket to get within two (53-51.) After a Ryan Renfro jumper got Rollins within one (54-53) it was a 9-0 spurt by the Fighting Knights that stretched the lead back to 10 (63-53.) After falling down by 17 (73-56) Rollins went on a 13-0 run capped by a Renfro trey to make it 73-69 with 10:10 to go. The Tars not only erased the deficit but took the lead (78-76) on a Renfro tip-in with 6:15 on the clock. The run continued as Rollins would go up by 11 (87-76) on a Jackson Gaffney layup with 2:53 to go. After Omar Figueroa made a jumper with 1:46 to go the Tars looked to be in complete control leading 89-80. After a quick 5-0 spurt by Lynn a triple by Figueroa made it a seven point lead (92-85) with 34 ticks remaining. Then the Fighting Knights would finish the game on a 9-0 run capped by Antoine Jacks 3-pointer with .5 seconds to go.
Nze poured in a game high 29 points to lead the Tars, Gaffney added 19, Figueroa netted 13, and Klug chipped in 11 in the defeat. Rollins shot 48.4 percent from the field, 52.4 percent (11-21) from the 3-point line, and 76 percent (19-25) from the free throw line. They had 20 assists and 11 turnovers in the loss.
Lynn was led by Max Polk with 22, John Roland had 12, Braydon Iuli and Jacks each scored 11, while Justin Bubak and Sveinn Birgisson each tallied 10. Lynn shot 49.2 percent from the field, 51.6 percent (16-31) from the 3-point line, and 72 percent (18-25) from the free throw line. Lynn won the rebounding battle 36-29. They had 19 assists and 14 turnovers in the win.
