Tars hold off late rally, beat Fire 64-52.

The Rollins College Tars (6-2) rebounded from a rare loss with a 64-52 win over the Southeastern University Fire (9-5) on Saturday afternoon. The Tars were led by a big first half, and three players in double figures on the day. Nick Wolf led the Tars with 20 points, Matt Robertson had 13 including a giant three to ice it in the waning minutes and Myk Brown added 10 points (all in the first half). The Tars shot 23-51 (45%) from the field on the afternoon. For the second straight game the Tars struggled from three point range hitting just 5-21 (24%). Another deciding factor in the win for Rollins was solid foul shooting. The Tars were 13-14 (93%) at the charity stripe. Uncharacteristically the Tars did have 17 miscues on the afternoon.
The Fire who trailed by 21 early in the second half rallied to get the lead down to 5 before Rollins closed the game on a 9-2 run. Two players did the damage for the Fire. Jacob Blankenship had 21 points (16 in the second half) to go along with 10 rebounds while Malcolm Pollack added 14 points on the day. The Fire shot 20-54 (37%) for the game while out rebounding the Tars 36-26. The Fire were 11-14 (79%) from the foul line on the day. They were atrocious going just 1-11(9%) from three point land. The Fire turned the ball over 19 times.
Rollins dominated the first half and after a Brett Chance banked three pointer at the buzzer led 37-18 at the intermission. The lead would balloon to 22 with 15:47 to go but the Fire would not go away. In the next 12 minutes behind Blankenship and Pollack the Fire would go on a 26-9 run that would cut the lead to five. Two huge free throws by Alex Castillo would extend the lead to seven and then the Robertson three would make it ten to all but ice it.
The Tars will be back in action Thursday December 18th when they will face the 12th ranked Wildcats of Central Washington. Tip time for the first game of the Las Vegas Great Western Shootout is set for 8 PM. You can call all the action on 91.5 FM WPRK Winter Park and on the Tars sports network at www.RollinsSports.Com
