The Rollins Tars were clobbered 88-60 by the Buffaloes of West Texas A&M Tuesday in day two of the Las Vegas Classic at the Doolittle Center. This one day after the Tars blew a 24-point lead in the second half and fell 81-79 to Midwestern State. Rollins falls to 8-5 on the season. The eighth ranked Buffaloes improved to 11-1 on the year.
Rollins starting forward Jeff Merton was sick on Tuesday and unable to go. Rollins was led by 19 points from Deion Clark- while Sam Philpott added 10. Parker Davis- Daniel Loh- and- Nils Lehmann added six each. The Tars shot 37 percent from the floor- 21 percent (4-19) from the 3-point line and 61 percent (20-33) from the free throw line. The Tars had 14 assists and 11 turnovers.
The Buffaloes were paced by Jordan Evans who poured in a game high 28 points. CJ Jennings scored 14- Ryan Quaid 13- and- Gaige Prim netted 10. The Buffaloes shot 50 percent as a team. They shot 38 percent (15-40) from the 3-point line. WT was a perfect nine of nine at the free throw line in the contest. The Buffaloes won the rebounding battle 41-30. They had 23 assists and 13 turnovers in the victory.
It was 15-4 in favor of the Buffaloes after the first media time out. The lead would be 10 (21-11) at the halfway mark of the opening half. The Tars would be down 12 (31-19) after a Blake Admire 3-pointer at the 6:21 mark of the first half. It would then be a 15-2 spurt by the Buffaloes that would give them a 24 point lead (45-21.) That lead would be stretched to 26 (52-26) at the break.
The Tars would score the first six points of the second half but that is as close as they would get the rest of the way. The Buffaloes would stretch the lead to 28 (69-41) with 10 minutes to go and cruise to victory from there.
The Tars will now go into the holiday break and will be back in action on December 30th. The next Rollins game will be against the Eckerd Tritons on the road at the MaCarthur Center. Tip time is set for 4 PM. You can catch all the action on RollinsSports.com
