The Rollins Tars welcome the Saint Leo Lions to Warden Arena inside the Alfond Sports Center Saturday. The game will tip at 1 PM, with the woman to follow. You can catch all the action on the SSC Digital Network- and- RollinsSports.com. Robert Segal and Jim "Shooter" Ferro will have the call.
Rollins (7-3 3-1) plays for the fourth time in the past seven days. After a loss to Barry on Saturday, the Tars bounced back with wins over Southeastern and Warner. They are tied for third in the SSC with the 3-1 league record.
The last two games Rollins played nationally ranked NAIA opponents and won. First they had a 94-91 win over the 11th ranked Fire of Southeastern University. Then they blew out 25th ranked Warner 87-57. In the game against Southeastern the Tars shot 64 percent- and- got a team high 22 points from Sam Philpott. As for the Warner game, the Tars saw 12 players get into the scoring column. Philpott had 15 in that one- while- Deion Clark stuffed the stat sheet with 12 points- seven rebounds- and- five assists. The Tars crushed the Royals on the boards 49-32 and held them to a 35 percent shooting day.
Philpott leads the Tars in scoring at 21.1 points per game- that is good for fourth in the SSC. Jeff Merton is 13th in the league averaging 16.3 points per contest- and- Eric Castaneda is averaging 13.3 points per night. Clark and Merton share the team lead averaging five rebounds per night- while- Connor McKim leads the Tars averaging 4.9 assists a night which is good for fifth in the SSC. The Tars are second in the country in assists with 200 thru 10 games. Offensively the Tars average 78.9 points per game which is good for third in the SSC. At the other end they are ninth in the SSC allowing 82.5 points per night.
Saint Leo (7-6 3-1 SSC) is third in the nation in steals and sixth in blocks. They have the best defensive team in the conference. The Lions were a 74-68 loser to Palm Beach Atlantic last time out. They bounced back and beat Edward Waters 82-64 on Wednesday. Junior Searcy scored 17 points to lead the Lions victory- DeAndre King scored 12- while Jesse Huff and Kyle McClure scored 10 points each.
Searcy leads the Lions in scoring at 12.3 points per game. King is right behind him at 12.2 a night- while Tyreece Brice and Isiah Hill each put up 11.4 per game. Brice is leading the team in assists at 5.1 a game- while- Hill leads the team in rebounding averaging 5.4 a night. The Lions score 73.3 points a game as a team on offense- but the best defense in the SSC only gives up 74.4 a night.
