The Rollins Tars used a 26-2 surge to start the second half and rolled to a 87-57 win over the Warner Royals at Warden Arena inside the Alfond Sports Center. With the win Rollins improved to 7-3 on the season,whle Warner fell to 8-3.
Sam Philpott led the Tars with 15 points off the Rollins bench. Deion Clark had a solid night with 12 points- seven rebounds- and- five assists- while Jeff Merton and Connor McKim added 10 points each. The Tars shot 49 percent from the field- and- 37 percent (11-30) from the 3-point line. The Tars shot 71 percent (10-14) from the free throw line. The Tars crushed Warner on the boards 34-22. They had 22 assists and nine turnovers in the victory.
Melton Sanders led the Royals with 13 points- while Khalil Ozuna added 10. The Royals shot 36 percent from the field- 13 percent (4-31) from the 3-ppoint line- and- 64 percent (7-11) from the free throw line. They had 17 assists and 11 turnovers.
Each teams had long scoring droughts in the opening half. It was a 14-12 game halfway thru the opening half. Nearly nine minutes later the Tars led by 12 (39-27) after a bucket at the 1:24 mark. Warner would score the last five points of the half and the Rollins lead was seven (39-32) at the intermission.
The Tars would get a quick start after a Daniel Lot dunk and go on a 26-2 run to start the second half. After a Parker Davis 3-pointer Rollins would lead by 35 (83-48) late in the second half. The Tars would cruise to victory for a second win in as many days.
Rollins will be back in action Saturday when they take on Saint Leo. Tip time is set for 1 PM.
