The Tars have won three straight and are coming off a 86-58 thrashing of Saint Leo on Saturday. Sam Philpott led the Tars with 25 in that victory- Jeff Merton had 14- while Eric Castaneda added 11. Parker Davis made his first career start and had 10 points- six rebounds- and- five assists. Philpott leads the Tars in scoring at 21.5 points per game. Merton scores 16 a night and grabs 4.9 rebounds a contest. Castaneda puts up 13.1 points a contest- while Connor McKim scores 12.3 points and dishes out 4.9 assists per night. The Tars core 87.7 points a game- while they give up 86.8 a night. Despite out-rebounded the opponent by more than 10 a game in the last three contests Rollins is -1.4 on the boards.
Midwestern State comes into Vegas having dropped it's last five and sit at 2-8 on the season. They were a 88-84 loser to Saint Leo and a 88-87 loser to Florida Southern earlier in the season. Last time out was a 94-82 Mustangs loss to Angelo State. Devante Pullum had 26 in that one, while Wanaah Bail scored 18 and Brandon Neel 14 in the defeat. Neel leads the team in scoring at 16.9 per game- while he grabs 6.2 rebounds a contest. Logan Hicks is averaging 12.8 a game and has knocked down 42 percent of his 3-point attempts. Pullum averages 11.5 points and five rebounds per night. The Mustangs score 82.7 points a game- while they give up 88.2.
West Texas A@M (9-1) won eight in a row to start the campaign. Then they lost a 106-100 shootout to #13 UT Permian Basin before a 82-72 win over Lubbock Christian. David Chavlovich scored 28 points to pace the Buffaloes in the Lubbock victory. Ryan Quaid added 19 points and eight rebounds in that one as well. Jordan Evans- Jordan Collins- and- Gaige Prim tallied 10 points each as well.
Chavlovich leads the Buffs putting up 23.8 points a night. Evans scores 17.3 a game- and- Quaid averages a double- double (15.8 points points and 10.6 rebounds a night.) Prim rounds out the double digit scorers at 10.7 per game. The Buffs high powered offense is ninth in the nation putting up 93.2 points a game- while they give up 78 points at the defensive end.
Rollins is 2-0 all time when hosting the Las Vegas Classic. The Tars are 2-3 all time at the Doolittle Center. The Tars have never met Midwestern State in Men's basketball. As for the Buffaloes Rollins is 0-1 all time against West Texas A@M. That being a 89-68 loss last season.
