Rollins-#24 Eckerd Meet In Key SSC Clash Saturday.

The Rollins Tars and Eckerd Tritons will close out 2017 with a crucial SSC meeting at the McArthur Center in Saint Pete on Saturday afternoon. Tip time is set for 4 PM. You can catch all the action on RollinsSports.com.
   Rollins (7-5 4-1 SSC) is coming off a 0-2 trip to Las Vegas. The Tars had a 22 point lead but could not hang on before losing 81-79 to Midwestern State. The following day they were demolished 88-60 by eighth ranked West Texas A&M.  Jeff Merton did not play in the West Texas game due to an illness. Deion Clark scored 19 points- and- Sam Philpott scored 10 in that one.
 Philpott leads the Tars and is fifth in the SSC averaging 20.8 points per game. Philpott has eclipsed the 20 point plateau eight times this season and scored in double figures in all 12 contests.  Merton is second on the team putting up 14.8 points per game and gets 4.5 rebounds a night. Eric Castaneda (13.2 per game-) and Clark (13.1 per contest) also score in double figures on the season. Clark adds 4.7 rebounds and 1.2 steals per night. The Tars average 84.9 points a game as a team- while they give up 80.9 a contest.
  Eckerd (11-1 4-1 SSC) comes into the game riding a eight game winning streak.  Since the lone loss they had on the season against Barry in November the Tritons have won all but two games by double digits.  The last time out Eckerd routed Emmanuel 104-70 in the Florida Southern Classic. Trevon Young had 27 points and 13 rebounds to lead EC in that one. Drushaun McLaurn and Blake Morrow each scored 20 in that game.
 McLaurn leads Eckerd in scoring at 17.9 points per game to go with 6.1 rebounds a contest.  Young scores 16.9 points and grabs 9.2 rebounds a night- while Morrow scores 13.6 a game.  Keshawn Ingram also scores in double figures at 10.9 per contest. The Tritons put up 84.8 points a game- while they allow 72.8 a night. The Tritons have dominated the back boards, as they out-rebound the opposition by 11.5 rebounds a contest.
The two teams met three times last season. Eckerd won the two meetings in the regular season, while they Tars were a 81-70 winner in the Semifinals of the SSC Tournament. The winner will take over sole possession of second place in the conference at the least.
