The Rollins Tars look to rebound both literally and figuratively Saturday when they host the Eckerd College Tritons at Warden Arena. Rollins comes into Saturday's game on a five game losing skid and with a 14-12 record and 10-8 in the SSC. While the Tritons are 18-6 and 11-6 in the SSC. The Tars come into the game tied for fifth in the SSC with Lynn. They look to remain in the mix for a home game (top four seeds play at home) in the conference tournament with three games left to go. The Tars have yet to win a game in the month of February but come into Saturday with a 11-4 record at home on the season. The last time out Rollins was a 90-71 loser to Nova Southeastern on Wednesday. Jeff Merton and Jakobi Bonner scored 19 points each to lead Rollins in the defeat. Sam Philpott leads the Tars in scoring at 18.7 points per game but remains out with an injury. Merton scores 15.8 points and grabs 4.4 rebounds a night- Eric Castaneda averages 11.6 points and grabs 4.7 rebounds per contest. Connor McKim scores 11.3 points and dishes out 3.3 assists per night- while Deion Clark also averages in double figures getting 11.1 points a night. The Tars average a league fifth best 83.8 points a game- but on the defensive end they are seventh allowing 82.4 per night.
Eckerd has only gone 2-3 in there past five games. The Tritons were a 90-84 winner over Embry-Riddle last time out on Wednesday evening. Trevon Young scored 21 points and grabbed 14 rebounds in the victory. Drushaun McLaurn added 23 points- while Keshawn Ingram scored 11. McLaurn leads Eckerd and is seventh in the conference averaging 19 points a night- while Young averages 17.1 points and 9.6 rebounds a game. Blake Morrow adds 13 per game- while Ingram gets 11.3 a night. Eckerd leads the league defensively allowing 78.4 points a night- while they score 84.5 a game which is fourth best in the league.
In the first meeting Eckerd was a 95-81 winner on 12/30 in St.Pete. Philpott led the Tars with 18 in that game- while McLaurn led EC with 23 points- while Trevon Young netted 22 and grabbed 12 rebounds.
The next Rollins game will be Wednesday 2/24 when they head to Saint Leo. The conference tournament begins February 28th with the higher seed hosting before it moves to Jenkins FieldHouse in Lakeland for the Semifinals and Finals.
