Rollins-Southern Renew Rivalry Wednesday.

The Rollins Tars face the Moccasins of Florida Southern for a 730 PM tip inside Warden Arena Wednesday night.  Rollins (14-9 10-5 SSC) fell into a first place tie with Eckerd after a pair of losses last week. First it was Embry-Riddle who upset the Tars 98-89 on Wednesday, then on Saturday the Tars were bitten by a place that has been a house of horrors for them for many years, the Martinez Center at Tampa. with a 87-82 loss.The Tars come into Wednesday's contest having won 11 straight at home.  The Tars escaped the first meeting between the two teams 117-111 in double overtime on 1/13.  Jeff Merton led the Tars in the Tampa contest with 19 points and seven rebounds.  Connor McKim scored 17 in that one- while Jack Fleming contributed 13- and- Deion Clark scored 12.
  Sam Philpott leads the Tars in scoring at 19.3 points per game but was held to single digits in both losses last week. Merton scores 15.9 per game and grabs 4.7 rebounds a contest. McKim and Clark each score 11.5 a game- while Eric Castaneda is right behind putting up 11.4 a contest.  Rollins is in the middle of the conference on offense putting up 84.3 points a game- while defensively they are near the bottom of the league giving up 81.5 per night.
 Florida Southern (14-9 8-7 SSC) scored a pair of overtime wins last week. They were the fifth and sixth overtime games of the year for the Mocs.  Both games were victories as they knocked off both Eckerd and Barry last week.  The Eckerd game was a 100-96 win for the Mocs, while they dominated the overtime in a 109-100 upset of #25 Barry on Saturday.  Jonathan Lawton was the SSC Player Of The Week last week. He had 31 points- eight rebounds- and- five assists in the Barry game.  Brett Hanson added 14 points- while Slinky Jones was the SSC Defensive Player Of The Week as he had seven rebounds- and- four blocks to go with his 16 points.  Lawton is third in the conference in scoring at 21.2 per game.  Hanson puts up 17.8 a night- while Ben Marcello rounds out the double digit scorers at 10.2 per game.  Hanson leads the team in rebounding at seven per contest.  FSC is third in the SSC in offense scoring 88.9 points a game- while they are at the bottom of the conference giving up 85.0 a game on defense.
  Rollins will be back at home Saturday when they host Palm Beach Atlantic. Tip time is set for 4 PM.
